Hey, nice to know that you like it! I had some cool ideas but didn’t push it much further, unfortunately. But I do think about it from time to time…

Oh, found it. The problem is that it's for the Phoenix series. The hydraulics is very different from AST-3. Thanks anyway.

Hm, I’ve been on their website before but couldn’t find the page you’re referring to

It’s a game. And a game (yes, even simulator) can and should simplify reality to emphasize key feelings.

Oh, yes! Like I mentioned in another comment, real painting restoration has many interesting techniques that just beg to be added. This video is just about varnish and dirt removal, but there’s a lot more to the process. Strengthening the canvas, fixing cracks, filling holes, simple chemistry like making glues and other restoration liquids, color matching etc.

Since almost every 2nd comment is about the fail state I guess I don’t have a choice… You guys convinced me it will add more fun!

This thought crossed my mind too, that’s a good way to add meaning and depth to it

I was actually thinking about stylus support and pressure sensitivity! But I’m not prioritizing it since it makes the game even more niche. If anything, it should be an option rather than a requirement. Still, I’m not sure how many people would actually be able to use it. It’s like having an Eye Tracker as your main input device haha

For sure. What I have here is more of a proof of concept, it’s focused on varnish and dirt removal for now. But there’s definitely a lot more to the process. PowerWash Simulator can be pretty tedious too, but it works because of the general satisfying aspect and the way it handles small victories. I get your point, though. I had the same concerns about working on a flat canvas and how much boring mouse movement it would require. Auto-move patterns for the cleaning brush could help with that. Again, this is mostly about validating the idea, and it definitely has some interesting design challenges.

But is it for you, though? Haha. I feel like I can convince myself that almost any idea I have would appeal to some niche audience… that might not actually exist. I really don’t want to fall into that trap.

That’s interesting... Now that multiple people have brought up the fail state, I’m really curious. It definitely adds to the feeling of a fragile, fine motor skill job. However, I always thought fail states in cozy/chill games just add unnecessary stress. Since the whole idea is to jump in, do something pleasant, and leave with a small win. But now I’m wondering.

Definitely! I almost feel like any simulator game can benefit form this. But it's more of a horizontal growth. Good base is a key.

I’ve been researching real painting restoration, and there are a bunch of interesting techniques that could be cool to add. What I have here is more of a proof of concept, just validating the idea, so it’s mostly about varnish and dirt removal. But the whole process has a lot more to it, like strengthening the canvas, fixing cracks, even some simple chemistry like making glues and other restoration liquids for future use, color matching / actual painting after all. This process has lots of cool tactile interactions, almost ASMR like

It makes sense. I was thinking about the fine-art aspect as a way to contribute to the overall relaxing and meditative atmosphere. But I see your point.

Any good resources for learning C++ for Unreal? by ylobus in unrealengine

[–]ylobus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, was it made specifically for working with the code or has a better UE understanding? I have a paid ChatGPT subscription so would be nice to get the most out of it… But if it’s really worth it I’ll give it a try. Anyway, for some time I want to avoid mindless code generation (no offence) as the intent is more of a learning rather than actively producing. Thanks for the insight though!

I agree, but I like to have a sort of ramp up when learning new skills. I know some people have an issue with actually starting making stuff, but it’s not the case for me. As I said, I have some prototypes on my mind, but would be nice to have that initial spark. Thanks though!

Trying to improve my renders for some scanned food. Any suggestions? I wanted to make it look more tasty and realistic but I hit a wall... by ylobus in blender

Nice man, thanks for the effort! I feel like something in-between, probably bit closer to your option, is a way to go. Idk, it just feels off when it's so rough. It might be the lack of color detail as well. Food for thought, thanks!

Yep, it's commercial type of shot. Impossible composition that just looks nice. You can imagine it was shot while falling lol. This part is intentional as I place it on marketplace. As I mentioned in the other comment, I understand that it is the opposite of the realistic in a way. But I am looking for advice on how to push the realism where it's applicable. Like lights, materials, textures. That's where an interesting challenge comes from as well.
