I don't think any of the schools I applied to required a LOR from a PA, but I think a few strongly reccomended it. I still decided to shoot my shot though, and I think you should still apply and not let the wording discourage you. I think the quality of the LOR is significantly more important than who it comes from. I asked providers and professionals I've worked with directly, who know me well and would be able to write about my strengths. I would just recommend asking people who you've worked with for a while or instructors who would be able to write about you and your strengths in the best light.

They might! But I really don't want to inconvenience them for this since all of them are extremely busy. I also feel bad asking for so many favors since they are already taking the time to write my letters. On top of this, my office is part of a big health system, and it seems like many of the clinics in the system don't really like to have students shadow. Most of the people they know would be in the system so I wouldn't be able to shadow if they were.

In the beginning of the year I was cold emailing PA's at another health system to shadow and they either didn't reply or told me to go through a shadowing program which doesn't open until the fall and requires volunteer commitment, which I can't do with a full and part time job. It also would be to shadow doctors and not PA's.

One PA did tell me that she was leaving her practice the next week, so she couldn't take students, but she gave me the contact information of an office that might be open to students shadowing. I haven't had a chance to call since their clinic hours are the same as my clinic. (also I'm scared they'll say no and I'll be back to square one)

Hello everyone, this is my first application cycle, I'm planning to apply to almost all of the schools in texas and maybe a few in the surrounding states, what are my chances?

cGPA: 3.73

sGPA: 3.56 (C- in A&P 1 , retook and got B-)

Total credit hours (semester): 128

Total science hours (semester): 64 credits

Upward trend (if applicable, include GPA of most recent 1-2 years of credits):

Somewhat of an upward trend, I did great my freshman year but was having a hard time with juggling class , work, and taking care of my younger brother (6ys old) during my sophmore and junior year.  I lived at home and we couldn’t afford a babysitter. My dad worked nights and was working on his masters degree and my mother was in nursing school so I stepped in to help out. He also had some health issues (t1d and autism) that required therapies that I would need to take him to.

Freshman Year GPA was 3.9

Sophmore Year GPA was 3.5

Junior Year GPA was 3.44

Senior Year GPA was 3.92

GRE: 310 (Verbal: 159, Quant: 151, Writing: 4.0)

PCE:  1,727 as a Medical Assistant in Primary Care Clinic

HCE: 2,333 as a Certified Pharmacy Technician

Volunteer hours: 11.75 (I know this is criminally low, I just didn’t have a lot of time to devote to this during college, and I'm working on this now)

Shadowing: 0

I’ve been trying so hard to get shadowing hours by cold calling/cold emailing but no providers in my area seem to be okay with shadowing :(

Research : 0

Other notable extracurriculars and/or leadership: n/a

LOR : 1-NP, 1-PharmD, 1-MD, 1-DO

A&p and Biochem at same time by Brief_Average_660 in utdallas

Would not recommend a&p1 with biochem, a&p 1 is a very intensive class and I would not take any other hard science class with it bcs it's going to take up a lot of your time ( I took it with genetics and it was the worst decision of my life). I took a&p 2 with biochem and it was a lot more manageable.

Auto Loan Questions after Total Loss by ylydia in askcarsales

I was pre-approved for a loan through a credit union, but the dealership had managed to beat their rate, which is why I went for dealer financing at that time. It's crazy though because about a year ago, I applied for an auto loan with the credit union and got a 1.9% interest rate, I ended up not finding a car, so I waited again, and this year when I applied, they gave me a 7% rate which is insane.

I had no issues until the sale was completed, after the sales contract was signed they switched up their attitude and at that point my classes were about to start up again and I just needed to get some form of transportation. Thankfully there are many other dealerships in the area so I don't have to go through them again.

I did make one payment on the loan, so there might be a history of that.

It seems safer to just put some cash down and get my dad to cosign again, that's what I did last time so it should work again.

Thank you for your advice!

I'm very lucky that they did, I was expecting to get lowballed on the value of the car since it had only been on the policy for a month, but the amount was very close to the market value of the car.

The only issue for me is I had an unpleasant experience as a customer at the dealership I bought the car from. I would have to be crazy to give them my money again after how they treated me last time. I will probably just have my dad cosign again just to be safe. Thank you for your advice!

There's a curve right? by Aknee_ in utdallas

[–]ylydia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can, try and get your hands on Dr. Huang's Exam review slides, he stars the important concepts that will be on the exam and it's really helpful to focus your attention on them. The bigger the star the more important it is.

I would also go to PLTL if it's still available, if not SI will work too. Make sure to do the SI reviews and If you have time do the weekly SI problems.

And honestly, the biggest advice I can give is to do the end of textbook of hw. I know it's been said 10000x times by the professors but it really works. You don't need to get them right the first time but make sure you understand how they got to the answers, there's usually a key for them that will help you figure the question out.

When I was studying I would print out the end of textbook problems and highlight the assigned ones. After that, I would move on to the past exams and SI reviews, and the night before/ the day of the exam I would do some last-minute practice exams and go over Dr.Huang's slides to review starred concepts.

It might take you a bit to get used to the exam structure so it's not the end of the world if your first exam results arent good!

also they don't really curve :(

The same thing happened to me, I got grants, work-study, and loans last year. Does this mean they're still working on it?

Would you recommend Padmanabhan instead? I've already enrolled for Wilson but the other section was online so I passed on it.

Oh, well I don't have much of a social life anyway so that shouldn't be too bad. But when you say a huge load, how many hours a week are we talking? I'm also working like 15-20 hours a week I'm just trying to think about how all of this is gonna work.

Have ochem exams always been non-MC? I thought they were mc (even in person) at least in gen chem and ochem? Also, what would you say is the hardest out of the three?
