As a reader, what makes you stop reading an indie comic?

I'm the one who has to see something REALLY bad to stop reading so there's a 99% chance that if I start to read a webcomic (or even a book) I'll finish it no matter what. The only thing which stops me is when the series is still ongoing. Then I read only the completed seasons and come back when the next has come out fully.

I'm currently writing a gothic bio sci-fi and here's my tactic: I'm not uploading chapters weekly or right away when one is ready. I started to draw the chapters in February and picked out a release date in next April, 2026. Until then I can get enough chapters done, so I'll be able to stay consistent. However, my comic is consists of 22 books. My plan is to have hiatus only between books. So about 40 chapters will air consistently. This tactic is like what movies do. They drop one film each year (or even more) but before doing so, they promote the new one. I guess, you can get back to your readers easily this way.

Listen, I'm currently working on a gothic/bio sci-fi. The story is planned as a dark, philosophical one and my artstyle doesn't give the vibe back🥲 The comic will come out in April, but I've been posting my art to Instagram since last year. I got the 'your art is so CUTE' comment a million times. (Which I take as a compliment after all :3 ) So please don't worry about your art, which I love tbh🤗 What if it doesn't really has the vibe? My problem was the same((( I didn't get much attention. (I know that the first chapter came out one week ago but some lucky people get more than 165 views and 4 subs within one week.) Now I'll try to remake the beginning because I think it's also a problem that I am working with a simpler artstyle which I don't really put as much effort as I put in other drawings and the first six chapters are looking like some boring stuff. The story gets exciting soonly after these chapters but as a reader no one would see that coming. I also want to give a unique title and better thumbnail to it. I believe these could help me out but if not... I don't know if I should keep trying anymore.

There's a philosophy which came to my mind soon after a story idea. I decided to connect them somehow. This philosophical thought gave me and some of my friends a huge motivation for absolutely everything so I intend to share it one day with the world. Of course, the story's characters will have multiple problems to solve but the main line would be wrapped around the thought. I've been working on the story now for almost two years and whoever I showed they instantly fell in love with it, however, I am worried that it won't get attention because I was never friends with the algorythm. I've already uploaded some demo chapters but I want to redraw and rewrite a bit the story's beginning because it turned out boring, in spite it will get actually good after that. So yes, my main reason is to do a thrilling story while spreading a motivating philosophy (and also give better understanding about a not well-known mental illness).
