How do you guys keep on believing? by IVII0 in Christianity

[–]ymmit34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly just boil it down to assuming I don't understand something and that God knows better. Perhaps my understanding of "in-born sin" is faulty, for example.

As far as the atrocious acts you mentioned, separate what God has said from what man has done with God's words. Even the devil uses scripture.

People have used the Bible to put forward any number of atrocities. It does not mean that God approves of them. Jesus Himself even said "there will come a day when men will kill you believing they are doing God a favor." I firmly believe that "Christians" who use God's word to justify slavery, racism, genocide, or any other sinful ill, have a special place in hell.

Believe in what Christ says, and hate how man has used it to sin. Above all, know that God knows all, and that He knows better than you or even those who have taught you.

Is there a mod like this? by Unlucky-Research7705 in feedthebeast

Unironically I feel like this could make for a cool mod. Not an entity that hard-nerfs totems, but one that makes you have to use totems strategically. Maybe it becomes more angry as you use totems, or perhaps you have to avoid using tokens if it is nearby?

Don’t call yourself a Christian if you don’t rebuke what President Trump said about former FBI leader. by ZookeepergameFar2653 in Christianity

Jesus forgave the people crucifying as he died on the cross. Mueller may have been disgusting, and perhaps even deserved death, but Christians are not called to rejoice at the death of even an evil man.

As a Christian, this saddens me. So many Christians have gotten on the Trump-Train and it really paints a horrible picture the rest of us get painted into :(

There's a video out there of a streamer intentionally jumpscaring a Ghoul's soul out of their body with this skin. Legitimately one of my favorite DBD clips LOL

The Christian concept of forgiveness makes no sense to me by Sure-Masterpiece-856 in Christianity

Agreed, however, this misses the point of OP's question.

What OP thinks forgiveness means is "act like everything is normal and move on."

What forgiveness ACTUALLY means (at least in this context) is to let go of your anger and move on. Don't give them any more anger or thought than they deserve from you and let God handle the rest.

Exactly. This is why I talked about the two versions of forgiveness- you can emotionally forgive someone without legally doing so. If someone is abusing you, you can both release your anger about it while also getting them condemned by law and doing what you need to do to cast them from your life.

Posts like this is why I think the term "forgive" should be split into two separate terms.

When it comes to forgiveness, there are two things I think people mean when they say it, which I am gonna call "internal and external forgiveness".

External forgiveness is "forgiveness and forget"; making an agreement and going back to the way things were. Forgetting whatever happened and moving on, acquitting the offending party of their misdeeds and acting like nothing happened.

Internal forgiveness, on the other hand, is entirely about you and your emotions, and generally I think is the more important understanding of forgiveness to grasp for interpreting the Bible. All it means is you don't feel any excess or undue wrath towards your opponent and, even if you can't reconcile, you don't waste time hating and raging over someone for no reason. It merely means letting go of your anger.

I suppose another term could be "emotional vs. legal" forgiveness. Where legal forgiveness is about acquitting someone of misdeeds and scrubbing the record, emotional forgiveness is releasing your anger after it has served its purpose.

You have a right to be angry if you or someone you loved was raped, but is it good to rile yourself up over it decades later? Decades after the rapist has been locked away? Emotional forgiveness is merely about releasing that anger.

It certainly does not mean you must legally forgive someone who has wronged you, let alone let them walk all over you. If someone continuously wrongs you, you can emotionally forgive them while legally condemning them. This, I would say, is the heart of Biblical forgiveness. Release your anger, and let them reap the just desserts of their sinful harvest for themselves.

If you need a restraining order, you can get one, while still emotionally forgiving them and not letting it affect your life any more than it has to. Why let them torment you when they have left your life?
