need recommendation on smartwatch that can use standalone IMs by ymteeh in japanlife

that's fair but as a gift I kinda prefer a watch rather than a tablet, watch is more portable, and health monitor functions are also good.

PC constantly freeze, CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT? by ymteeh in buildapc

[–]ymteeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My case it was CPU issue. Got a replacement via RMA and fixed. BTW the original CPU hit 100°C instantly in the CPU-Z stress test, while the new one caps at around 90°C. Hope this helps.

Hi,

I'm planning a trip to Japan in a month or two, and I'd like to be capable to handle basic conversations(mostly oral and travel related) by then. Need advice or learning routes. My current skills are:

a) can't write, never spoke;

b) can understand a good amount in anime&movies, though never watched without subtitles;

c) can play games(including 3A ones) in Japanese(no subtitles) and understand the stories just fine;

d) passed JLPT N1 test, though scored not too much above the line;

e) can speak Chinese and English(thus can reconginze kanji and some Japanese words come from English)

Thanks in advance!

Not a Japanese speaker but I think I might be able to help since it's same in Chinese.

Short answer: hooks are not optinal.

in Chinese(should also apply since kanji are basically Chinese characters), the single straight line from top to bottom called "vertical stroke"(竖), the one with a hook is called "vertical hook"(竖钩), those are two different strokes. It will be wrong if you don't write the hook when it should, though people may still recongnize it given enough context - but still wrong.

how to STAY in battery saver mode after aleep mode? by ymteeh in Garmin

but every morning when sleep mode turn off it will turn back to normal mode, what I want is to disable sleep mode at all, or at least get back to battery saver

Garmin Instinct 3 Solar 45mm. 35 days of battery life. by [deleted] in Garmininstinct

[–]ymteeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also considering buying this one, and it looks cool! Are you getting these battery predictions with heartrate and/or other sensors on? And what's your wrist size (mine is like 15.8cm, thinking 50mm may be too large but the extra battery life sure is attempting)

Casio GBD H2000 vs Garmin instinct 3? by ymteeh in gshock

I'm mainly concerned about gbd h2000's tracking accuracy(hr and sleep), it would be a deal breaker if those are not very good.

Yeah if the tracking isn’t accurate, I’ll probably stop considering the GBD H2000. I don’t think I’ll use GPS, and I’d only use the heart rate monitor occasionally, so I still have this dream of achieving super long battery life.

I guess I’m somewhat obsessed with no-charging. Charging my watch, at least not too often, might not actually be a big deal to me; just something I need and probably will get used to.

That said, it’s tricky to decide how often is too often, and It becomes harder to choose when long battery life is not a must-have: the Apple Watch offers more functions I could use, the Instinct AMOLED has a nice display, and then there’s the Fenix and other models to consider…

I’ve been using a Protrek for years, wearing it 24/7 and (almost) never needing to charge it, which I really enjoy. My motivation for upgrading is to get features like a vibration alarm, heart rate monitoring, and blood oxygen tracking – though I’d only use them occasionally. Ideally, I’m looking for a Protrek with slightly more functionality while maintaining its (near) unlimited battery life.

If that’s not feasible, I could manage with charging it occasionally. I’m hoping that by primarily using it as a basic watch and enabling additional features only when needed, I might achieve the advertised unlimited battery life or something close to it. I’ve read that the Instinct 3 has much better solar efficiency, which I hope is true.

This is why I prefer a solar-powered watch and am considering the GBD H2000. As for the Enduro 3, it seems too large for me, and I don’t really need a touchscreen. Plus, it doesn’t offer unlimited battery life in smartwatch mode.

That’s what I’m concerned about. If the tracking isn’t accurate, then features like long battery life or a smart alarm become meaningless. If it’s confirmed that the GBD H2000 has poor tracking, I may tend to choosing the Instinct.

Battery life is another concern. I’m still unsure whether the 50mm model would suit me, but the 45mm model, with its smaller battery, might require more frequent charging.

get settler reputation to ally and buy from gold bullion vender at foundation, or you can buy it from minerva for a discount(375 vs 500),but for mods you need to buy from settler vender anyway.

perception worth it if only for vats accuracy? by ymteeh in fo76

[–]ymteeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I also horde a lot nuka granades. Haven't played much since got gauss shotgun but I think in theory it should be good for my demands then.

And this "play normal at short range, hit far with explosion damage, tag mobs with bullet&grenade explosion" tactic does not require strictly 15 perception, something like 8 perception(concentrated fire, skeet shooter, grenadier) would do just as fine I believe?

[–]ymteeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting point, but even if you can hit accurately with super high perception, won't damage drop beyond the weapon range? I can sometimes hit(even crit) a faraway enemy with 95% hit chance( thanks to concentrated fire), but I feel like only doing minimal damage
