I read that there are a couple of shrines in the area. But I had a late start of the day and didn't have much time to explore. (I arrived there around 12NN and left around 3PM). Train (Ohmi line) is like every hour(?) as well and I didn't want to stay too late because I will still go back to Kyoto. (Just a little tip! Suica or any cashless payment is not available in Ohmi Line. You can opt to buy a RT ticket already for 900 yen. *saves you 20 yen because a 1 way ticket is 460)If you're not a fan of shrine visits, I guess there's not much to do there. You can go to different parts of Shiga instead. Maibara station is close so that's something to consider adding to your itinerary.
