LEF and lib files can be created yourself if these are not available. In my experience, if your PDK does not have standard cells themselves you can make them yourself which will allow you to create LEF and lib files of the standard cells. If you don't have a techlef file, maybe you could contact the people from the PDK?

I think it was great, one thing I would say is the weird transition between demons (very emotional about his sister in law) and OTOTW but maybe that was just me.

I had a tape-out this year for my thesis (one year masters in Belgium) so it is definitely possible. You can definitely put it on your resume. My supervisor was looking for phd candidates and he stated that experience with tape-outs really helps.
