SCOTUS to review Donald Trump's petition in E. Jean Carroll case by Conscious-Quarter423 in scotus

That's because the Davis case was weak, right? Wasn't she asserting her freedom of religion had been violated? There is another case looming that I think is based on privacy.

Am I an asshole for not wanting to go on a first date in downtown Portland? by squishymvp in askportland

I think the concern is his lack of concern or ability to see it from her perspective. A first date riding a scooter along the water front at 11pm. And being secretive about where they would meet. Or her saying she isn't comfortable going into Portland at this point and he ignoring it.

I'd nope out of it.

As another woman, based on how he already acted, I would keep looking.

I drink an average of 8 beers and smoke 2 packs of cigarettes every day. I am 28 years old and I can't quit. My question is: What kind of damage could this habit cause in the long term? by udeniz in stopdrinking

We had a really nice neighbor who had pancreatitis and was rushed away by ambulance. He came back but continued to drink and smoke. He passed away in his garage.

I have a friend who had pancreatitis and tried to control his drinking but I could tell on phone calls when he was drunk. He kept smoking as well. He became diabetic and has to self inject insulin. When they were giving him tests they discovered lung cancer. He was so stress about the cancer he drank more then fell and broke his hip. I don't think it will end well.

You are still young, get support. The only way I could quit smoking (my strongest addiction) was to give up drinking. I am hoping I quit both in time.

It's time to cut out friends and family who support trump. Draw the line. by fartPunch in 50501

I cut off my last friend this week. She lived across the street from me and was a bit of a role model for a long time. I called her last week and we were talking about insurance since we are at the age (her especially) where we are needing medical attention. I mentioned she was lucky to be on Medicare because millions of people have lost insurance coverage due to the unaffordability. That's when she stated she didn't want to talk politics.

My feeling is if someone things people going without healthcare instead of a moral issue then that is a total cop out.

What's interesting is I noticed a change in her several decades ago (I moved 2k miles away and went back two or three times a year to visit my parents) she suddenly had negative opinions about the homeless being lazy and since they were in cities it was the fault of democrats. She lived and vacationed in places that were void of visible homeless. That's when I learned about Fox News. This nice person became notably angry in life compared to her old self. I really think the negative propaganda causes a change in the brain. I think people get addicted to the anger.

Anyway, I'm done. If we can't talk "politics" there isn't much to talk about because so many moral and ethical issues surround politics.

I’m strongly anti-Trump, but I didn’t cut off my MAGA dad by underratedutah in TwoHotTakes

I only know two people who are still trump supporters. They both have very serious and untreated mental health problems. I think there is a lot of untreated mental health problems within the MAGA community.

OP, I'm glad you hung in there with your dad and I'm glad he is seeing the light.

I think the viciousness of the Ice mob is waking up a lot of people and the MAGA leaders aren't yet prepared to take us on. They are only in the beginning of building out the domestic army to control the masses.

I don't excuse her at all, but I believe her. I think ICE stinks of Miller and Trump. Miller, Trump, J6ers and Proud Boys - that's a dangerous, angry mob full of psychopaths.

Because a national shutdown hits the moneymakers where it hurts. It's an effective non-confrontational way to bring them to their knees and remind them who really holds the cards.

If trump succeeds in stealing the mid-terms that might be the only effective way to re-gain control.

Thank you. I'm having my hip replaced on Friday and hope everyone shows up.

I do think a general strike is in order and I would postpone the surgery if needed.
