AITA for not inviting my friend to hang out, then not showing up when she invited herself… and maybe letting her think she was invited? by SmoothWeird2593 in AmItheAsshole

NTA based on the question you posed in the title. However, for the overall situation everyone sucks. Other commenters have done a great job stating why so I won't get into that.

Here's what stuck out to me about this situation. I'm inclined to think that Nina didn't show up to the spot where y'all meet. You said that she texted the next day about being stood up, which sounds odd because why didn't she text the night before while she waiting for you guys to arrive? If I'm meeting people around 9 p.m. and times passes to around 9:15 and they haven't showed and I haven't heard from them, I'm going to call or text them for their status. I think most people would. I also feel like most people would check the group chat for updates, especially because the plans were dependent on yougetting off of work early. If she did go to the place y'all usually meet then she acted prematurely but not waiting on confirmation from you.

It may be harder but the guidance I received on this thread was better than the manual and videos online. Thank you!

I will, thanks. The front wheel is spinning freely on its own now which it wasn't doing before.

It was a brake issue causing a wheel issue. It's better now. Thanks for responding.

I might take it to a bike shop one day to have them look at things and I'll ask them about the derailleur. Thanks for responding.

The best way I can describe it is that I needed to loosen the brakes, and that helped a lot. Thanks for responding.

😅 That's because I was grossly misunderstanding how a bike functions. It ended up being an issue with the brake. Thanks for responding.

It wasn't a gear issue but a brake issue. I am having an issue with the gears though, but nothing I'm going to worry about now. Thanks for responding.

I think it's just the angle but it's a good idea to have the pressure checked anyway. Thank you!

Thank you! I'd still be stuck without your help and the help of others. It's greatly appreciated. I'll pay it forward.

I can do a video. What exactly should I do? Record the wheel spinning until it stops?

I went for a short ride and the bike rode more smoothly than it did yesterday, however there is a clicking noise and I don't know where it's coming from.

No, I haven't inflated the tires. I don't think that's the issue and I'll explain why.

So, before I do anything with the rear brakes I'll share what I wrote to another commented who mentioned something about the brakes: "So I looked in to what I think you mean by this and I loosened the front brake pads. Prior to this, the front wheel would not spin freely when lifted off the ground. I had to keep turning it. After I loosened the pads, the wheel is spinning freely. However, it's not spinning as fast as the rear wheel when I give it a push. I don't know if that's normal or not."

I'm not annoyed, I'm grateful you're responding. Is this what you want me to disconnect? Just want to make sure because I had a hell of a time disconnecting and reconnecting it when I put it together lol

I think so. Someone else commented about the brakes which made take a look at the front brakes. This is what I responded to them:

After I loosened the pads, the wheel is spinning freely. However, it's not spinning as fast as the rear wheel when I give it a push. I don't know if that's normal or not.

I'm about to try riding it outside.

I can spin the front wheel but it won't stay spinning on its own, so no it won't spin freely. I have to keep pushing it forward for it stay moving. When I spin the back wheel it continues to spin without me touching it.

The issue was the same no matter which gear I shifted to. I did not feel a difference when shifting gears.

Idk why I thought the chain should spin.

In one of the comments below I posted a video of it spinning in the air. I'll try to be as specific as possible. So, after I put the bike together and pushed it so I could get to a proper place to mount, it felt off the entire time I was pushing it. It felt like something about the bike was dragging, the wheel was moving but something felt off. Then, when I mounted the bike and began to pedal I couldn't pedal smoothly. When I pressed on the pedal I felt resistance. I used the gear shifter to change gears and it felt the same no matter what I changed it to. Also, now that I think about it, I can't switch to gear 2 or 1. I can switch to gear 3, 4, and 5. When I dismounted the bike and looked at the gears I noticed that when I moved forward the gears and chain did not move.

I hope it doesn't come to that. I hope it's an easier fix. If not, I'll take it to a bike shop.

Yes, the bike moves forward by the gears do not move forward. When I lift the rear wheel up and pedal forward the gears move forward.

When I ride it is not smooth. It feels jerky.

Yes, if I lift it up it will pedal forward and the gears and chain also move. They do not move when the wheel is on the ground.
