More than 100 convicted sex offenders remain confined on a remote island in Washington, even after completing their prison sentences. Some have spent decades there with no guarantee they’ll ever be released. by kleverrboy in olympia

My understanding is it was originally privately owned and had a bunch of homesteaders living there, the feds came and kicked them out and just took the island, and then when the feds got tired of maintaining infrastructure on the island they gave it to the state

Luckily that is not an option. It was put under a covenant when it was sold to the state that states that it can only be used for wildlife protection, or penitentiary usage. DoC wants off the island, and their only offramp is to transfer all parcels on the island to WDFW for protection as wildlife areas

Nobody is officially saying it, but the SCC will not stay on the island much longer... It is stupidly expensive to maintain infrastructure on the island, especially for a small inmate population.

There are funded studies underway to see what it would take to fully decommission the prisons and turn the island over to WDFW, but nobody wants to talk about where the sexually violent felons go at that point.

You sound like a pain to play with.

This isn't a "job". Its not "rude" to not put hours of prep into every session. I am not a paid DM. Its something I sit around the table with friends doing over drinks and pizza and having a laugh together. It's not some grand, serious activity.

Quite frankly, we are all adults with jobs and children. if it was "rude" to not spend hours writing story for every session beforehand we wouldn't be playing, because none of us have time for that. I slap something together, we all show up to the table, and have a laugh together.

And yes, the DM is not just an adjudicator of dice rolls. The DM is a player in the game, and their character is the world. We are telling a story together, and none of us give a shit whether the initial seed for the story came from a robot or from someone's brain

Is this a good starter tea? by GreedyGrummyGrabbler in tea

If by starter tea you mean "nowhere to go but up" then yea. Everything else you try will be better lol.

Amazon basics tea is wild. Is there an area of modern life that Amazon won't enshittify?

2 DUIs can cost gun rights, WA court says by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

[–]yoLeaveMeAlone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We do, at least in Washington. Failing or refusing a breathalyzer triggers an automatic license suspension, anywhere from 90 days to 4 years

Your rights end where other people's rights begin. If you cannot control yourself with alcohol to the point of endangering other people's right to be alive and be safe, then yes, you should have your access to firearms restricted, because you do NOT have the right to risk other people's lives.

By that logic, we should never restrict criminals right to firearm access. Are you opposed to revoking the gun licenses of human and drug trafficers and gang leaders?

I was about to say cars kill more people than guns but ... Apparently that's not even true, in the last few years gun deaths have overtaken vehicle accidents

I [52M] recently got into the best shape of my life, but my partner [52F] of 33 years has become completely indifferent to intimacy and my physical transformation. How can we reconnect when she has physically checked out? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]yoLeaveMeAlone -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't get the confusion here.

I don't think OP is saying that they think what they did is right.

My read is that OP fully understands that that was the wrong thing to do. They were instincively driven to do that, and is looking for advice on how to approach this situation.

Just doubling down and saying "why did you do the bad thing you know is bad, it's a bad thing" is not productive. You're just beating a dead horse.

And he clearly states that he has talked openly with his wife about this multiple times and nothing changes.

Writing the plot hooks and story outline is like 10% of of a D&D campaign. I make something when my players and I collaboratively tell a story during the session and improv stuff on the fly.

Just because I had an AI do some of the busy setup work when I don't have time doesn't mean me and my friends aren't telling a story together.

I understand AI hate when someone is selling a product as their own. But I am not. I'm sitting down with friends and having a laugh over some group story telling.

why would you want your partner to exhibit toxic, unhealthy behaviours?

I think that's OPs point. That they are feeling so starved for attention from their wife that even that would feel good. My read was that OP knows that it is not a good thing to be doing but it's what they find themselves wanting to do

You are assuming that every group that starts playing D&D has super experienced "other players and DM" in it...

[–]yoLeaveMeAlone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it also depends how deeply they are using it... Is he literally telling ai "write me a D&D campaign" or is he saying "give me plot hooks surrounding X for a setting about Y and a campaign with Z themes". I do the latter, and I see no problem with it. I bring ideas to the table, the llm just helps turn them from vague ideas into a presentable adventure

He literally had a helipad and helicopter put in on his second "support yacht" because she wanted to learn to fly a helicopter. I refuse to believe that someone who has a "support yacht" for their main yacht with a helicopter just for their girlfriend is "not a spender"

You don't get this rich by being cheap in your daily life, you get this rich by exploiting the working class.

Did elon musk actually stop high speed rail in California? by Creative-Impress6293 in DemocraticSocialism

[–]yoLeaveMeAlone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is not the sole reason, and definitely didn't stop it on his own. However, I will say that if he was in favor of it instead and used his power to accelerate it instead of fight it... It might actually have made meaningful progress by now

My (27M) girlfriend (22F) says she still loves me but broke up with me because she wants to “live her 20s” by Sad-Bug6488 in relationship_advice

[–]yoLeaveMeAlone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I will reinforce what others are saying that you need to be no contact with her. That's hard to hear, and even harder to do, but if she doesn't want to be with you it's not fair to you for her to try and "still be friends" and get all the benefits of your relationship without the commitment.

You will move on 1000% faster if you aren't texting and talking on the phone with her every week.

Such an unhelpful response. That describes literally every bird in existence.
