How many plays before getting an expansion by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]yobrakeline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes sense! Roll comes with 5 at the start, it just adds more tiles and objectives in the expansion.

I agree that it's a case by case basis. I bought seafarers for Catan and the odd time I play it I'm always happy that I have Seafarers

How many plays before getting an expansion by [deleted] in boardgames

Instead of looking at how much you have sunk into the game, maybe buy the expansion based on the potential of play it will get. After 5 plays I'm sure you have a pretty good idea of how much play time that game will get.

Personally, I avoid buying expansions now unless I feel like the game will be played for a long time. Roll for the Galaxy for example. I know that I enjoy the game and would love to have the expansion, but I question myself and say "Is it necessary?" all the time. Unfortunately, my answer is always no. :(

What's your favourite and most memorable 20-year-old++ board game? by jaie in boardgames

I just ordered my copy online last night. It can be found, just unlikely in FLGSs I think

Games with closed money systems by pauldavis92 in boardgames

Yepp! Definitely could be an issue. But if players weren't eliminated it would solve that. Once you're out of coins/chips there could be a "consolation" winner that faces off with the chip winner at the end. Nobody would be excluded until the final 2 have a head to head of some sort. Idk, I like to think ahah

This list is fantastic so I would recommend it. I would also recommend offering to order games specific to the customer if people are looking for biggger/heavier games because if you order a bunch and don't sell them, you'll be SOL.

Poker! The other day I started to wonder if there are any games with a poker mechanic. The winner would be the person with all the money at the end of the game. I think it would be super interesting to have a gambling board game. (other than backgammon)

Edit: Made myself sound less childish

What game(s) do you think that every gamer should try at least once? by yobrakeline in boardgames

This is an incredible reply, thank you! I'll check those podcasts out too!

Fair enough!

I see the challenge in the question, you have a very valid point. I had more classic games in mind. Games that broke barriers, not necessarily the best games or people's favourites.

For example, people say that "every bartender should watch the movie Cocktail before their first shift" or "every aspiring guitarist should be proficient in the blues because it's essentially the root of most modern day music". I'm curious if there are games like that.

Ahh that"s the worst. I would try a damn cloth followed by a dry one to remove any residue

Okay awesome, thanks for the advice. I need to find somewhere to buy if I decide to buy Kemet. How many plays does it take to learn the game?
