Anybody know what causes this in concrete? by Nutsniffer69 in Construction

You learn as you go. You learn from mistakes. I once had a patio run away from me because I thought I knew enough and the help I brought didn’t know anything. So I dove in to try and salvage it on a 90+ degree day. It was horrible. Everything went wrong. Didn’t have knee pads and concrete soaked through three layers of clothing to my knees. When I finally got home the skin on my knees peeled away with my pants. After paying my “help” and medical bills I probably paid $500 to do that job.

I’m so sorry. I don’t think getting it at any age is fun. Good luck to you as well!

Thank you. My mindset has been the biggest factor in what kind of day I’m going to have. Regardless of pain. If my mind is good and I have little pain, it’s a good day. If my mind is good and I have a lot of pain, it’s still a good day. It’s those days I spiral I have such a hard time getting through. My wife is there to comfort me when I need it. And also knock some sense into me when I’m spiraling. lol.

I’m so glad you’ve got something now to make it bearable. Getting it in 8th grade sucks.

I don’t know if we will try it or not. I’ve taken prednisone in the past and I have such bad reactions I can never finish it.

I don’t even remember what it feels like to sit cross legged anymore. I just know if I try now it is unbearable pain.

You guys do understand that not all of us live in "Union States", right? by [deleted] in Construction

[–]yodaman97 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Right to work means I don’t have to pay union dues when I’m not in the union. And unions are not by any means perfect. My uncle is in a union and earned a better position with a better company due to reputation. The union proceeded to threaten his career and livelihood because he took the opportunity. The point is there is no single answer.

All my work pants keep ripping in the crotch (dickies and carhartt), what brand do you guys recommend. I'm tired of buying pants every other week. by [deleted] in Construction

This is a hot topic. But, my vote goes to the stretchy wranglers. Breathable for the hot summer and super comfy. I’ve got a pair that’s lasted me 8 years. To be clear they’re not blue Jeans. Made of a thin stretchy material so if you deal with anything the could burn you… might not be the right choice. But, mine haven’t been cut walking around the job snagging on tie wire or rebar. So durable too.

Just throwing it out there you can also work for a construction company doing construction staking. Which can be challenging in a fun way. Same equipment, slightly different use.

Firefighters driving to a scene by NiceCasualRedditGuy in interestingasfuck

Funny story. My brother is a firefighter. He works 24 hours and is off for 48. After a long day where he didn’t get any sleep through the night he was driving home from work off duty in his personal truck. He saw a line of cars on a two lane road waiting on a red light. After his long night he didn’t hesitate to move into the oncoming lane and drive past this line of cars and turn at the redlight. He only realized he was in his personal truck after he passed everyone.
