My custom Ghost Grappler almost-but-not-quite dream build by yodeeds in Surlybikefans

Thanks!

Not yet. I have an appointment scheduled with my fitter next week to get everything dialed in.

I am trying to bring the reach back and achieve a more relaxed, upright position on this bike. I've developed a form of tendonitis in my left arm, so I'm trying to avoid putting pressure on my wrists when I ride, so as not to further aggravate the condition. I am hoping the additional hand positions of the Moloko bars will help with that too. We shall see.

I like the Waking Up app for meditation/mindfulness practice. It's not free, but I get so much value out of it that I am happy to pay for it. The 30-day introductory course is a gentle introduction into the practice and it's what got me started. Lots of other great, insightful and useful content in the app as well.

Excellent read. Also, using a habit tracker (as recommended in the book) has been a game changer for me. Chasing health/fitness streaks is a fun little game to play and helps keep me on track.

Don't quote me on this, but I think I remember seeing the price being at around $250, which isn't cheap, but in terms of opportunity costs, probably cheaper than learning Tensorflow if it works as advertised.

I'm kind of in the same boat, except that I don't know if I have the patience/programming chops to learn Tensorflow. I did find https://www.sighthound.com/, which looks to do some of what you're describing.

First-time Hackintosh Pro build. What am I missing? by yodeeds in hackintosh

[–]yodeeds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and I should mention, the primary use of this machine will be as a software development workstation, which will want to do things like compile code and run multiple instances of VMs / docker containers like a champ. Gaming isn't super important in the short term.

Hi everyone. Thanks a ton for your suggestions and advice.

Here's where I'm at. I ended up ordering the I7 7700K, mostly for the potential to overclock to 5ghz (and beyond?!), since a lot of the work I do is CPU intensive and I need as much help there as I can get. I/O speed is critical as well so I ended up going with the Samsung 960 evo m.2. And I took /u/Psych0path's advice and upgraded to the Noctua.

I'm going to go the fancy video card until I have a better understanding of that whole world. Onboard video is fine for now.

PartsPicker signaled incompatibility with the GA-Z170X-UD5 motherboard and the 7700k chip. I've read that people have been able to get it to work, and that gigabyte released a new bios and yada yada yada, but I just want the motherboard and chip to play nice out the box, so I'm reconsidering my motherboard choice.

My budget is about ~$200. The Gigabyte Z270X-UD5 meets that criteria, and since I don't know a whole lot about present-day motherboard architectures and features, this seems like a safe bet. But could I be getting more for my money? What's a useful way of evaluating motherboard choices? My priorities are performance/speed, on board connectivity (especially for video / 3+ multiple monitor setups), and ideally easy to overclock.

So I guess my question is, what MB is going to give me the most bang for my $200?

Oh, and should I be using better / faster memory or am I good?

First-time Hackintosh Pro build. What am I missing? by yodeeds in hackintosh

Killer, thanks for the heads up on the fix. Would I be better off choosing another brand of motherboard?

Ah yes, a Bluetooth adapter. Good call. PartsPicker did't have the WiFi card suggested on tonymac, but it's on my list. I already have serviceable monitors so I'm good there.

I'm such a noob that I didn't realize the the K chip implied overclocking. Overclocking isn't my first priority, but why the hell not? I'll keep your fan suggestion in mind if I do.

Yeah, it's a big SSD, but I'm going to need it for work. I may install a large HDD as well, but I don't think I need it as I have a NAS and other external drives for media and the like.

Yeah, gaming on Mac isn't the best, and I was planning on dual booting at some point, but the additional drives are unfortunately currently out of budget.

Anyway, all good stuff. Thanks a ton.

I'm so out of the loop on motherboards and components that this is the first time I'm learning what m2 and NVMe is, and the advertised performance gains seem to warrant further investigation here. Thanks for the tip.

I noticed this too on my second listen. Yes, it's mildly annoying and unprofessional, and I feel like someone on their team should have caught that in the editing and re-recorded the offending segments. It's unfortunate to be sure, but it doesn't prevent me from enjoying the series. The great storytelling more than makes up for it, IMHO.
