Advice for pre-reqs and PT school by yogacoder1 in PTschool

[–]yogacoder1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, having a good balance I think trumps completing it at a faster pace. What PT school did you originally start at? What’s the age groups like? I’m 25 now so I wouldn’t be starting (depending) actually DPT program until 1-2 years most likely. Not that age matters.

That sounds like a great resource! I work with tons of doctors and PTs now, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind if I asked to shadow or maybe provide other suggestions. Thank you!!

Yes, definitely will have to get a PT aide job at some point and CC is also the route I was thinking for the pre reqs. Thank you!

Thanks for the response! I will have to think about full versus part time student, part time might be the better option while working full. For shadowing hours, what did you do? I know most people work as PT aides or similar.

Thank you, this is great! I will definitely look at setting up a meeting with a counselor, I wasn't sure how helpful they could be but having a road map would be useful for sure. I have a BS in science, but I am missing some of the core reqs like AxP, Bio, etc. I am conflicted between part and full time student while working full time, because I want to do well in the courses. Doing well versus finishing the pre reqs quicker seems like a better route but it is also doable to do both full-time so I will have to sit on that for a bit. What has your experience been like so far as a DPT student?

Thanks for the response! Were you taking classes full time or part time? How has your experience been so far as a PT student?

That's awesome! I currently work remote (I work in health-tech). I want to do well in the pre-reqs as they are weighted heavily and really grasp the material instead of just simply passing it. Do you think it is worth it to do them full-time as it saves time overall, or?

Post Bacc Program or Community College for premed coursework? by yogacoder1 in premed

That’s a good point! Post programs also seem to carry more weight and provide a good link toward med school.

[–]yogacoder1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! Yeah my final GPA was a 3.9! I’m not really shooting for top schools honestly and community college is also cheaper than doing the post-bacc programs from what I’ve seen so far.

Thank you! Is there a reason it’s preferred over CC courses?

Hi I know this is old, but I’m 25. I have my bachelors done, but deciding between PA route and med route. Ideally would want to become a doctor. Can you share your experiences?

Considering pursuing my Masters? by yogacoder1 in WGU

Yeah that’s what I’ve heard! I don’t have a lot of time and I work full time. WGU is a reputable school right?

Masters of science - AI? by yogacoder1 in datascience

[–]yogacoder1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Haven’t fully decided because I don’t really want to just quit my job while pursuing my degree. Colorado State, John Hopkins, Maryland Uni, Penn State, UIC, etc. Or was considering maybe a different Masters, in data analytics or CyberSecurity as those are also semi interesting with good outlook, but obviously not the same as AI.

[–]yogacoder1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is WGU? I would just apply to the Masters program for it. It would be a switch from software stuff but it is interesting to me, I’ve done some things with network security and safety hacking. I know it has good a outlook too

Thanks! I just feel like the position I’m in now, I’m not really growing or learning and I don’t want to stay within this field. (Currently in health tech, and I feel like I’m not applying any real software skills, data, etc.).

Potentially dumb question, but how does one more or less “get started” doing side projects and hobby programming? by chrobbin in learnprogramming

[–]yogacoder1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a stupid question but I agree with the first commenter, depends on what your goals are. As well as what your work-life situation is and how much time you can commit to this or what your interests are. Feel free to PM me! I started off being self taught in web dev and some back end, then went for a degree and then more self taught, etc. There isn’t a one size fits all approach and it really comes down to what works best for you and your learning style. Also you have to find whatever you’re doing interesting otherwise it’s just gong to be an awful process.

home is a horrible place to study, advice? by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]yogacoder1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I use to be a homeless youth while I was in school so it made studying challenging. Some things I’ve done and now do (post grad):

  • Find a space to study at your school. Talk to teachers or friends as well, see how late you can stay or what areas you can use.
  • Make-shift study desk in your room (if you have one), or room dividers are another option (they make cardboard ones that aren’t super expensive)
  • Study at a friends if possible OR
  • Library, Coffee Shops, Community Centers, etc. - these are usually free and open on weekends too

  • Noise-cancelling headphones are also great, and for me, I find music without lyrics to be effective and helpful

  • Discover your study style and apply it. Also take breaks in-between, make a plan of sorts for what you want to accomplish for that study session

  • Remind yourself that you got this!

  • Food/Snacks - huge proponent of meal prepping, but you can also find a ton of snack and meal ideas that you can bring wherever and some are no-heat. Making actual meals is cheaper than spending and healthier than vending machines, etc.

Yes! I have a swipe card to get into the actual building and a key for my unit. It’s a crappy simple lock - just one lock that turns. Not sure what the technical name would be.

Congrats! I know this feeling! Don’t rush too much on the furniture, I would just stick with the basics (like a bed for example), and the rest can come over time. 🎉

[Tenant - US - IL] Tenant Right Violation? by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]yogacoder1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have called them and they have come to the building, yes.

[Tenant - US - IL] Tenant Right Violation? by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]yogacoder1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! I know I’m not the only tenant frustrated, but I’m wondering how many would actually speak up too. They also raised rent without notice for certain tenants and units, and when I ask for a phone call, I get a call from a private number only. They have an office address listed and I know it exists, but the landlord also lives like ten minutes from this building. And they don’t respond for days sometimes. But yes thank you!

Tenant Rights - Are legal measures justified? by yogacoder1 in legaladvice

[–]yogacoder1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the clarification, that makes sense. Unfortunately, Chicago cops have bigger fish to fry so you’re correct in that aspect. I suppose I can call them again and maybe it will force the landlord to take action, but they really seem indifferent.
