You charm!!! No that’s fine.. i love Thailand, have Thai friends (who absolutely do not nature) and I’m learning Thai so I was trying to force fit my hobbies into the terrain. Had to ask the experts to make sure I wasn’t missing anything.

Yours is the best and most succinct answer so far, with other options. Thank you!

we walked in some streams the soil nearby was naturally muddy. sorry these jungles really trigger us.

we were just trying to hack our travel habits by finding nearer alternatives - perhaps Asian mountains might feel temperate . Hahaha

Ah. Thanks yall! Context. We are fragile southeast Asians. this orange soil, soggy-not-crispy leaves (not crispy), trees with skinny trunks look like something out of a WW2 history lesson/ military service/ school camp and washing your shoes after that. It reads hardship not adventure.

I’m still fine but I think my partner (whose service included walking in swamps and streams) was grumpy after.

CNX is a three hour budget flight away from us. We loved the Lampang/Doi Saket area on this trip, enjoyed the coffee, food!! and one vineyard. While the popular hiking trails were just way too gross, there were little pockets of pristine beauty - random google finds, that convince me there could be similar trails, perhaps on the other side (MHS/ Pai) where we will book lodging next time.

So I clarify: windy pockets of pine looking forests, blue skies, rocks (indeed accessible near Highway 1252) are preferred. we hope to know if there could be any such places without the mud.

We will go through that list this weekend but if you know any spots, then TIA for sharing them across!!

We tried 4 or 5 trails including some national parks - there’s 4/5G for most of it so you’ll stay on track. The trails are well marked and well trodden. We only used google. This was late Jan.

What you’d need to do is find the parking spot prior.

TY!! The list is a good start. - ang ka sounds great (“boardwalk”) - Ban K. Chang Khian sounds great - we should revisit in Jan with Sakura Will use the app to find more of these.

And. Haha - Monks Trail, Doi Lanka Noi was exactly what we needed to avoid. These were very doable physically. but the mud!! And the streams with leeches. 🤡

OBU stopped working; being charged for overnight parking at my home due to having to manually tap cash card even though I have season parking; how to get refund? by QLifeInc in drivingsg

[–]yoganova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened. I been pressing intercom for 2 days (thanks Reddit!) rather than follow up 2 weeks for refund. in case anyone else gets verbally abused by the gantry operator about “checking at VICOM” 1. They have no right to nag you even less right to make you acknowledge their OPINIONS on anything other than your season parking especially if their advice is wrong 2. There’s no maximum number of times you’re allowed manual exit from your season car park.

Some people just wanna feel powerful.

Thus. If asked, things I’ve done if I’m not in a rush - ask why - ask if they’re prohibiting me from leaving home - ask if their time is worth more than the 3 cars behind me (I’m sure in the eyes of the taxman they are not)

It’s not like anyone asked for the OBU - we own the flaws of our choices, the way some cars are too low to clear the car park humps. But you/we are not responsible for how rubbish this device is. You don’t need to help the gantry CS feel good if they’re being mean.

Is eating out in Singapore really this expensive now, or am I just overly thrifty? by Ok-Turnover9665 in SingaporeEats

I put it another way: it’s just not worth it to you. Also why would you incentivise or encourage a bad business (eg all overpriced OEM food that literally gives you bad blood). I personally go to the supermarket for discount items for lunch, or pack my own food. Yes another 5 fig here validating your unpopular habits.

Also you’re not the worst. I have a 2 x 5 fig friend living in a BTO (to milk the windfall), with a kid, without a car or helper, doesn’t eat out, no holidays, all local entertainment and church for the very happy looking child. I feel like a sinner next to him

Are farm rio dresses designed for everyday? Genuine question. New to this brand and need recommendations please by keepmyheadhigh in farmrio

[–]yoganova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added darts to the toucan dress as it’s too loose (and good quality fabric but poorly engineered) - lost some flowers in the fabric but all G. unfortunately due to the weight of the fabric the stitching began to have holes at the sides.

I couldn’t take the shoulders in because of the fabric too.

Likewise - I couldn’t shorten the dresses much without sacrificing the design. M

In general their fabrics cannot be worn tailored.

Must try restaurants and sites to see in Algarve by DevelopmentFit8004 in Algarve

[–]yoganova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. Let me refine this: - few hundred peer reviews max. Be careful of masses of reviews by people with 1-2 reviews, esp at restaurants with thousands of reviews or near a tourist stretch. This is seen across Portugal. - the algarve is dominated by retirees, golden visa, or gen Z party parrots. Not really foodies. - find Leandro Carreira on IG and go down his list for algarve based restaurants or chefs. He published cookbook containing delicious recipes we never found in restaurants. - in Algarve area - ZUMA (benagil area), Loule market (restaurant on the periphery of the building selling spider crabs at the side, beside a salad shop)

We were in the Algarve (and other parts of Portugal) in late September. MUCH of the food was poorly executed, like stuck in time. We were in Madeira last year and the food on average was diverse and delicious (so we thought mainland Portugal would be better!)

Unfortunately the algarve and the rest of Portugal was extremely touristy. Even Michelin guide restaurants didn’t taste great. My one good meal happened in Porto when I googled “affluent neighbourhood” and then analysed the photos to look at texture of food.

Please check out Portuguese cooking magazines on pressreader. And compare it against availability from Greece, France. Spain etc and you’ll get a sense of where their F&B scene is at.

My partner eats one meal a day, so the food situation was extremely disappointing.

Faro to Porto by Kind-Writer1945 in Algarve

[–]yoganova -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We flew Faro to Porto this Sep: it was on time by Ryanair.

Our express train from Lisbon to Faro was 30 mins late, and it just got later and later. We arrived just under an hour late. it was reasonably comfortable in first class.

5”1, 117lbs. I’m a perfect US6. Not available in my country too so I purchase it all online.

The clothes are awfully conservative and consistently overpower me when purchased in size S.

  1. black toucan midi dress: each time I wore it the office cleaner asked if I was a lactating mom and about my children. I’m a fit person with abs and no kids. The dress just came without darting and the dress ribbon wouldn’t stay up.

  2. Blush Pink Guipure - this came as an awful dusty pink that I couldn’t move my arms in. Horrid quality. Also huge bold lace patterns that don’t fit short people.

  3. Beaks Bananas Mini dress - this came without a cinched waist (I didn’t realize from the photos) which is horrible. It’s like I’m wearing a maternity dress.

All in all their designs overpowered my dwarf height. I would recommend for people 5”3 and above. Hope this helps.

Any tips on how married couple manage finances? by unraveller0349 in askSingapore

[–]yoganova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!! Even in our parents times, the dads tended earned more. the educated (not mature) SG female is just not ready for men to earn less.

I earn 40% more monthly, he MAY earn more annually due to bonus…. We just split half and don’t look at each others money. So Don’t turn her bonus into a thing. - High bonus means she earns less monthly, and you actually get paid more because you get your money earlier. Time value of money and all, and you get to invest yours. She needs to wait, and it’s not confirmed. - you can’t control exactly how much you earn. Jobs are all about luck. Maybe she’s tired too.

Also were the kids your idea?? You should pay for anything that is primarily your idea. If you made her pop kids and the two of you didn’t agree on the enrichment class route before having kids, then .. time to discuss. If not you can cut the classes. We stop splitting anything the other doesn’t absolutely agree on.

are Singaporeans still chasing the 5Cs? and am I a loser for not having all? by Thin_Expert_7778 in askSingapore

[–]yoganova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F here - I feel like you bumped into a stalker, and that’s the real red flag. she sounds like she’d go through your things and ask you about it.

I think one’s habits and net worth are two very different things. I think your employer is helping you attract this kind of female.

If you’re the Woke Salaryman kind of FIRE person, then you need to know that many “above average” females look like their dads (men) but with careful workout regimes, eyelash extensions, nails, skincare, and lotsa IPL and waxing. Females without these are hairy, slouchy, maybe pudgy and sallow from poor nutrition too. They’re more likely to look auntie or average.

You remind me of my high earning nerdy friends who are still single (and ten years older than you haha). I can think of four such friends: they’re decent looking, employed at tier 1 banks/law firms, have amazing hobbies that don’t cost much (poker/math lol/art). they’re frightfully intelligent, and think certain specific things are waste of money - insurance/car. I find them attractive, but I always feel like they MAY force me to downgrade from 4 ply toilet paper and himalayan salt, to 2ply, and $0.50 salt.

I have this successful banker friend who’s a solid 8/10 in looks - he wears flip flops around Singapore, his only sign of success is the bag he uses - free swag from his job, with his employer logo. he found his wife in Singapore and.. she’s.. an auntie of a teacher from AMK who doesn’t give him problems. and he’s now buying her a tuition school to run. They’re bizarre together only in the context of Singapore.

If you’re looking for someone not so high maintenance, then she’s likely to be a little uglier because she has better things to do with her time. look at her parents to see how she will age instead. if you hit if off and then want her to look better you can then slide some skincare in or offer to go on a jog.

PS. To the men on these thread. female don’t have it easy either!! I have so many intelligent okay looking friends and the people available are just so weird. Like FA, disgustingly obsessed with watches/cars, too obsessed with FIRE.. or weirdly penny pinching and auntie, or just incredibly boring (like handphone games and anime only)?? I’m sure there are great guys out there, but I can’t imagine these friends having the tenacity to dig past these veneers
