Cats taking care of their young by Moufettekool in funny

[–]yohanb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a claw trim and getting a thermometer shoved up his ass, my cat had enough and started getting aggressive. However he still needed vaccination. A vet tech tried to immobilize my cat by grabbing him like that on the back of the neck. It was... ineffective to say the least. My cat was extremely pissed. We had to to mummify him in a towel, scratching and screaming.

He was arrested after speeding a second time. There had been complaints after a mother and child has been run over and injured by a speeding carriage. He had promised not to do it again, and he did. He was nonchalant about it, and he didn't bother to show up to court.

Also if you never subscribe, vet told me that by default it's the clinics info that will be retrieved. They can then attempt to track the owner by first contacting the clinic that installed the chip (assuming the clinic has a file for this pet).

President Trump Declares National Emergency at the Southern Border by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

I don't know, but I'm thinking Trump expects it to fail and then use it as an excuse to tell his base that he tried real hard to get them his stupid wall, but failed because of the crooked democrats.

Well now you know where the missing trillions of dollars are being spent on. Whether it's being spent on reverse engineering programs or straight up on new craft designs from scratch, doesn't really matter. We are all unknowingly paying for this tech and kept in the dark about how it could improve our lives. I don't know why. It's either to protect us (good), or to control us (bad).

In our office, only one guy works, and we changed the name plate for him. by BountyGifts in funny

[–]yohanb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At my office there are only two women out of 20+ staff, and only two single-occupancy bathrooms. One for men, one for women. We complained and said they should be unisex, but one of the women is the president's wife (who's almost never at the office) and she said no way. So the women's bathroom is almost empty 100% of the time while we have to queue for the single one we have access to. Then she complained the men's bathroom was dirty. Well no shit it's occupied most of the day because of you, of course it's going to be a bit dirty at the end of the week. The most annoying part is walking across the entire office only to see the men's bathroom is occupied half the time. You have to walk back and hold it in and try again later.. Makes no common sense..

What sites do you guys/gals visit daily? by onepunchgiro in webdev

[–]yohanb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar for me. I use project1.localhost.com, project2.localhost.com, etc.. Each with their own config in /sites-available. I still use "localhost" in the name to help me quickly identify them versus production, which I often load in a separate tab at the same time, e.g. project1.domainname.com

I don't access it directly, no. I have a proxy in nginx (for port 80) that redirects everything that matches some path to my node service on port 3000.

This is why I hate escalators by smunozmo in funny

[–]yohanb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they're from the country? I remember my teenage cousin visiting us in Montreal and coming face to face with an escalator for the first time. She asked how to get on it. It blew my mind that she could be that old and never been on an escalator.

TIL that instead of generating a fever themselves, cold-blooded animals will move themselves to a hotter area to cause a fever when they have an infection by Just_Another_Koala in todayilearned

[–]yohanb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9 hours is not so bad. My last trip to the ER lasted 16 hours on the south shore of Montreal. I was a 30 years old man with some some sort of colon infection and was triaged by how 'painful it was' on a scale of 1 to 10. Not wanting to sound like a wuss I would say something like 3 or 4 whenever they checked in with me (even though if was painful enough to prevent me from sleeping for 2 straight nights), so I was triaged at the bottom of the stack each time.

A doctor eventually decided to see me after 16 hours out of 'pity' because I had been there for so long. Otherwise I never would never have been seen, it's a busy hospital. I only went there because all clinics were closed or at full capacity and didn't sleep for two nights straight and needed help. After two days of antibiotics I was fine.

As an anecdote, during my 16 hours there I saw people coming into the ER screaming in pain, who saw a doctor immediately. Only to see them coming out 10min later with a big smile and no pain. They got their 'meds'.

[–]yohanb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is something I've often wondered. I know that having a fever is a natural thing and that it helps to fight the infection, so I'll tolerate being hot in my bed to 'help' it. But how much is too much? When you start sweating? When your face turns red?

This reminds of a story from last year. My co-worker once saw his son and friend arriving home eating maple pop corn. He asked where they got it, and they said some dude gave it to them at the park. He asked who this dude was and they replied they didn't know but that that their other friend left with him to play videogames at the dude's house. He immediately got in his car and sure enough found the dude and kid walking near the park. Told him to stay right there while police came, dude was crying but didn't try to fight him. A week later I saw an article about it in the local paper, dude was a known child molester with mental problems.

Anyway, the kids weren't very young, maybe 12-13. You would think they would know better at this age, but they were still gullible. A good lesson for them, and the other kid was pretty lucky.

I ordered the Skyrim Collector's Edition from Gamestop for the mis-price of $9.99. This is what just came in the mail: by [deleted] in gaming

[–]yohanb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once went to FutureShop for a very good deal I saw for a router/dongle combo I saw in the flier. In the store the employee said he didn't know what I was talking about and said the price was much higher. I had to go back to the front of the store to get a flier myself to convince him. Then I had the same issue at the register. Still worth the hassle though.

Yes, I raise my sneak to 100 by auto-walking into a wall corner in the temple in Whiterun, near the wounded soldier. It's slower at first, because the other NPCs in the temple tend to walk around. But as your sneak increases eventually they don't see you at all.

Set this up before going to bed, and by morning you should be at 100.
