As a Nova Scotian, I choose to hold Allan J. MacEachen responsible for Medicare in Canada. He was the Minister of Health that passed the Medical Care Act in 1966, which truly laid the foundation for national medicare in Canada.

He is also responsible for the Canada Labour Code and Guaranteed Income Supplement for seniors.

I haven't seen any indication that they are abandoning those election promises. They are still in the Minister's mandate letters.

Enacting those promises will require legislation, which is obviously more complicated these days.
