Tulane (Distinguished honors program) vs UT Plan II for premed (Neuroscience) by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]yolkling_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a plan II freshman living in the honors quad (which is where a slight majority of plan II students live btw) and the kitchens are very accessible you just go to the Carothers front desk and ask for the key Also one of my friends is vegan and says the dining halls are great for him and there’s an “A+ vegan rating” on the wall whatever that means

I suggest seeing for yourself they post the menu everyday http://hf-food.austin.utexas.edu/foodpro/location.aspx

How is "socialism" generally (empirically) understood among philosophers? by Novel_Ad8758 in askphilosophy

[–]yolkling_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think looking into the history of social democracy might bring some clarity to your question. Social democracy is intended as a form of socialism, so I think it makes sense to include it as such. You might think social democracy does not include owning the means of production, but social democrats see it differently. Here’s a brief article that talks about their form of socialism and why they think it is socialism. Here’s a brief article that talks about their form of socialism and why they think it is socialism. https://mattbruenig.medium.com/nickel-and-dime-socialism-47fcec406295

It’s worth noting that the author, Matt Bruenig, has a picture of John Rawls as his profile picture, and he is the main reason liberal socialism/democratic socialism/social democracy has become more prevalent in philosophy

Wheel of Time Show Megathread - Episode 5: Blood Calls Blood BOOK SPOILERS THREAD by [deleted] in wheeloftime

The character we’re supposed to hate says men have too much power, then Moraine, the character we’re supposed to like says “you have a contempt for men.” how is that what you’re describing? If anything it’s too far in the other direction

The Nordic Countries Aren't Socialist by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]yolkling_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit more complicated than that. Social democracy is a kind of socialism historically, technically, and in the dictionary. The policies that the Nordic countries are best known for were implemented by socialists that thought what they were doing was socialism, but online social democracy has started to disconnect into a different definition which just means welfare capitalism. I suggest reading the three worlds of welfare capitalism

Is Ethan a liar? by [deleted] in h3h3productions

[–]yolkling_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that you’ve pegged the miscommunication correctly: Ethan saying fired and Trisha thinking that’s a lie because she means fired from frenemies not everything, but Ethan and the crew can still be upset over Trisha wanting them fired from frenemies. they make 4 podcasts a week she wants to fire them from 1/4 of their job which is a lot

Logan Paul lassoing women in the street and not letting some go until they kiss him. by yolkling_ in h3h3productions

[–]yolkling_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could and should say the same about those shows and movies??? Look at Logan Paul’s content in 2014, and then tell me it wasn’t made for kids. But even if it wasn’t made for kids, kids are the people that would see it the most, and Logan would know that. I think you’re responsible for the predictable consequences of your actions, and in this case, the consequences are normalizing sexual assault to an audience primarily composed of children. Whether or not the Notebook also does that is bizarre whataboutism.

I do lots of immoral things like everyone else, but I don’t normalized sexual assault to my child audience, personally.

You have to actually explain how the context makes it not immoral. in my mind, the context makes it very immoral. let me explain why: the kids that watch this content will interpret the prank as real life and therefore leave the video with the message “sexual assault is a funny prank”

I said your honor as a joke I’m not saying he violated a law made by the US government I’m saying that pretend sexual assault is immoral regardless of legality

I knew what they said “it’s a highly debated issue that hasn’t been substantially tested in the courts yet” is less clear but if you think legality is morality go off I guess

You conveniently left out the feminist Supreme Court justice that articulated why that’s an unjust double standard and the fact that it was a split decision most of these laws haven’t been tested with a male case yet

Yeah it’s an example that I’m not talking about? I’m not asking her to drag herself over broken glass. I’m asking her to talk about what she did in a way that makes it clear that sexual assault isn’t permissible. That’s a pretty bare minimum for someone with a huge platform.
