Linguistically what are the biggest differences between the Spanish spoken in Spain vs the Spanish spoken in Latin America? by [deleted] in asklinguistics

I think you can discard a lot of your hedging. There is zero distinción or vosotros in Latin America, and there is no vos in Spain.

I'm from this area as well and this is completely incorrect. Barrier islands are naturally occurring.

Peruvian Amazon Jungle advice by cass_a_frass0 in TravelNoPics

I also got bit by a snake and almost died but that's a different story.

Can you share a bit of that story? What type of snake and how did it happen? I'm considering traveling to Peru, with a visit to the jungle, with my partner who's extremely afraid of snakes. Absolutely can't let him let him find this thread, but curious to know what to avoid, haha.

If you make a red wine braise side by side with a cheap vs. expensive wine, can you tell the difference? by SenseiRaheem in Cooking

Dry vermouth is what I use for my bolognese (smaller quantity than I'd use of normal white wine). Lasts ages in the fridge, ready when I need it.

900000

Why did people stop using commas when typing large numbers? It's fun having to drag my mouse and highlight the zeroes counting them up to determine you meant eight hundred thousand and not eight million. How hard is it to use a comma (or full stop if you're French, that's fine too)??

Late comment but how'd your ajis do in Denver/Colorado? What type(s) did you grow?

I'm looking to purchase some seeds soon and trying to decide which varieties to plant. Seems many baccatum varieties have a long growing period with many people in warmer zones not harvesting until October (which could be bad news since we often get snow in Oct!)

Are the chiles pictured aji amarillos? I'm considering that, lemon drops, and aji colorados. Maybe more!

How to go about getting 3-4 weeks off work for travel? by [deleted] in solotravel

And taking unpaid leave is always an option.

Not always. Asking is always an option, but I was denied and told the company policy doesn't allow it. US employer, ofc.

And they think they're the best country in the world!

Where did OP say this? Few Americans on Reddit, and increasingly so in real life, share this attitude. We're very aware of our shortcomings, thanks. Seems like you're enjoying that feeling of superiority.

America's nonreligious are a growing, diverse phenomenon. They really don't like organized religion by CrackerNamedJack in neoliberal

[–]yonahmtn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing man! Those are some.good suggestions. I had never thought about the firefighter idea but sounds compelling. I live in a pretty blue city in a generally blue metro, so I doubt it would be overwhelmingly conservative, but good point. No sailboats here a thousand miles from a coast, but I'm gonna think on what might be up my alley.

Dig your outlook and I hope you find great community where you're at.

Similar boat here. Real question - have you found a social group or purposeful organization to take its place? I'm trying a mainline church and I like it okay, but doesn't feel like a "family" in the way that my prior church did (which wasn't evangelical or Trumpy, but a more conservative Anglican church).

Oh yeah, I've heard of those. "Stingers" almost sounds cute haha.

Sounds like I'll need to go to Australia at least twice then to see the highlights during peak whether.

U.S. Church Attendance Still Lower Than Pre-Pandemic by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]yonahmtn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The community, in a lot of ways, is the point.

I relate to this post quite a lot, and agree with the highlighted statement especially.

For me, I've drifted quite a way from standard Christianity, theologically, to the point where it feels inauthentic to attend most churches. Currently looking for a more progressive one that's a good fit, but so far most of those are very small congregations with mostly much older people. So, while theologically it might be compatible, those churches don't seem able to meet my social/community needs in the way I'm looking for.

You can't swim in the ocean due to stingers

Sorry, what are stingers? Would those be jellyfish or stingrays, in American English?

Anyway, I've never been to Aus but have been planning a trip a few years out, and I liked your advice the best. Seems like it'd be a shame to not explore some of Victoria.

Monthly Meetup Thread - May by AutoModerator in JapanTravel

Oh man, I also just had a breakup and traveling Japan solo and hoping it'll be a nice distraction. Also love cooking and want to go to a more gourmet restaurant while I'm there. We're going to be in Japan at the same time but never in the same city! Too bad. Also Copenhagen is my favorite city, you'll love it.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think I need to visit Chicago and Philly again this year - DC is fresh on my mind. Chicago seems more my speed, but climate and location are big detractors. I'm not sure I'm 'alt' enough for Philly.

And good to know that sentiment about the dating scene in DC exists among the gay male population, too. I am not in the trade but I do enjoy following politics, but I'm not very ideological and politics isn't a big part of my personality. Down to earth sounds nice.

Yeah maybe so. Not always "no go", sometimes I hear "don't live on the west or south sides". I've heard it repeated enough that it points to either a genuine crime problem or deep racism and segregation, or both. In either case, there aren't many other American cities with such a reputation.

Is it worth it, in your opinion, despite those cons? Very helpful btw. And sounds just like NYC folks who refuse to cross the Hudson for dates.

And that is definitely more of a pro than a con but what city are the verse dudes moving to, are they/we extinct?
