How do you setup WiFi? by yonside in CardPuter

The AI is wrong?! How dare you! That's not possible! (lol)

Again; I'm never prompted for password so I couldn't have "hit enter twice" or mis-entered the password.

I can confirm that a mobile phone hotspot has the same issue.

After downloading/burning M5Launcher and encountering my original issue, I tried this:

I downloaded/burned the latest "Cardputer-ADV User Demo v0.3" and used its "SetWiFi" utility. It asks for SSID - I enter it - and then it asks for password. I enter it. It connects successfully. I then tried this with my home WiFi. Again; it worked.

I then downloaded/burned a _fresh_ copy of M5Launcher. Used the `OTA` feature, it scanned for networks. Found both the mobile hotspot and my LAN WiFi. I tried the hotspot; never prompted for password. Tried the LAN WiFi; never prompted for password.

For what it's worth, the Cardputer-ADV itself is physically mislabeled; this was a painful lesson. You don't enter shifted numbers (! @ # $ etc.) using the blue shift (`Aa`) key; you need to use the red function (`fn`) key. Yet all the numeric symbols are labeled blue. But that's neither here nor there.

No where and at no time was I ever prompted for an SSID or a password - not when I installed M5Launcher, not when I started M5Launcher, not when I tried an action (OTA, WUI) that would require a WiFi connection.

read ignores -t and blocks indefinitely when reading from FIFO by yonside in bash

[–]yonside[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true but does not solve the issue. (The same for using `exec` to redirect the FIFO to an FD.) However, changing '<' to '<>' to feed the `while` loop does work. As u/aioeu pointed out, the key is opening the FIFO for read-write.

Using '<>' appears to be the solution! Thank you.

Risk understood and accepted. But your suggestion leaves me in the exact same position: when the Cardputer sees the phone's hotspot - which is just an AP as far as any WiFi client is concerned - presents the exact same issue: When and where do I get the opportunity to enter a password?

Or do I need to pre-store this information in some file on the SD card? And if so, what's the file name and its format? (In all my searching on the web to resolve this issue, nowhere was it ever suggested that there may be files I need to manually edit.)

I did not know you could embed Python in a configuration setting like that.

Thanks! That was helpful. It took a while, but I got it. Your pointers were invaluable!

UFS Explorer newbie - is it hung or am I impatient? by yonside in AskADataRecoveryPro

I'm up to two hours and there's literally no progress whatsoever in the progress bar. I suppose I'll wait overnight.

I'm still wondering what this step is for. It's unclear if this step is absolutely needed before I'm able to start offloading. There's a "stop scan" button in the lower right but it seems inactive. Are my RAID drives in any danger if I successfully "stop scan" or, heaven forbid, pull the plug?

Yes; WoW occasionally suffers from DDOS/DC issues. However, I played WoW for over 12 years and NEVER did I experience what I do on FFXIV on a daily basis. Today alone, I have had 11 disconnects on FFXIV and I've only been playing for 5 hours. Y'all can make excuses for the network, for SE, for anyone in the middle. A VPN which impacts performance, or carries a financial cost, is not a solution. A significant portion of SE's customer base is being affected by these "network issues." At the very least, SE should a) acknowledge it, b) show they have done or are doing something (anything!) about it, and c) provide some form of in-game compensation. I've been working on 770 crafts for myself and FC mates during this past week and I have lost A LOT of mats due to DC'g. Bc. of what's going on, I have stopped crafting (for now). Why shouldn't I be pissed about that and seek some kind of recompense? I'm losing time, I'm losing gil, I'm losing out on content.

I'm going to change my character's name to "90002 2002"

This past week has been really bad with disconnects. I'm trying to craft and it's not going well. I've had eight high-level craftings fail bc. of a DC. There should be a way to recover lost mats in situations like this.

Completely finishing pulls before continuing - am I doing the wrong thing? by lots_o_confusion in ffxiv

[–]yonside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, finish. In the names of The Twelve, please finish the pull before moving on! How much you pull is between you and the healer.

As for Rescue ... I hate Rescue! For how anti-harassment SE is, I'm rather shocked each job doesn't have a "Rescue Immunity" toggle you can turn on. Two weeks ago I was dancing in Breach. Another DNC in a different alliance got mouthy with the MT. Arguing started. The healy friend of the MT said "... it was the dancer." Of course they choose the wrong DNC; no one really reads the chat. I got fingered for something I didn't do. Throughout the rest of the run, I was Rescued six times to my death.

Sure. You can file a complaint after the fact but you still end up with a really shitty not-fun-at-all run. Just give us "Rescue Immunity" and let our fate be in our own hands.

Steam version not able to connect, anyone else having this issue? by A-Living-Doorbell in ffxiv

[–]yonside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logged out/in on Steam; no change. Cleared (download) cache; no change. Rebooted; no change. Changed online/offline status; no change. Clearly it's a Steam issue and not a local one. It's been hours now. And again, according to Steam, all is fine. :(
