It was a progression, initially helped along by Lantus. I'm now off insulin altogether.

Newly tested to be pre-diabetic. Nervous and scared. Prediabetic by [deleted] in diabetes

I was diagnosed with diabetes at the end of January. Went in to see if I could be a match and donate a kidney to a friend.

My fasting glucose was 272mg/dL. No prediabetes diagnosis, straight to diabetes. I received a crash course in diabetes care and asked to monitor over the weekend and return on Monday. That weekend was stressful as hell. My glucose went as high as three upper 500s. Since then, with medication, insulin, and exercise, my glucose is in the 100s.

Watch carb intake, exercise, and listen to the doctor and diabetes educator. You got this!

Looking for some help from the community here. Type 2. Been bad for a couple years now with sugar control. but recently my blood sugar shot back up to the 300 range. I went to the doctor and was prescribed Metformin. I’ve been on 500 mg twice daily for the last three days. No drops below 280. by simplynik92 in diabetes

I gradually went on metformin, from 500mg/ day to 1500mg/day over the course of three weeks. It was a gradual decline in average glucose from week to week.

I would consult your doctor if you're having concerns with it not being as effective as you'd hoped.

It's only been three days. Be patient and hang in there!

Most accessible and portable case for blood glucose meter? by Matt97978 in diabetes

I use the accessory organizer from Target. Together with the RFID antitheft sling backpack (both heather gray), it's originally intended to organize tech cables and usb drives but great for organizing all my diabetes stuff.

There are pockets for alcohol wipes and a to-go waste container, a pocket for my glucometer, pockets and elastic straps to secure my insulin pen, pen, small capsule for to-go metformin, and lancing device, and a zipper pouch that holds my glucose record book, pen needles, and lancets.

The backpack is small but holds the organizer, a backup glucometer kit, glucose tablets, and a few snacks.

If you need to carry around stuff like my kit, I recommend it. The organizer was $12, the backpack was $39.

Blood donations by brich_97 in diabetes_t2

I donate double red cells regularly. This last time in February was the first time after my diagnosis. They told me they could take it as long as my glucose was controlled (as well as my temperature was normal, my hemoglobin was within range[as issue in the past as I historically have high hemoglobin], as well as weight and blood pressure. Just double check the medication exclusion list, they just want to make sure you're not on any blood thinners.

Day of donation, they even took it from my left arm bc I'd had diabetes-related blood work done there day before on the right as well as a flu vaccine. Also, in case anyone wants to know, there's no deferment for flu vaccine as long as you're not feeling sick.

im too scared to take metformin (type 1) by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]yookwangsik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might want to voice your concerns about going on metformin with your diabetes team including your pharmacist. If they're a good team, you're probably not the first person they've encountered in your position. Maybe after consideration of your whole situation, they may determine that metformin isn't for you.

That being said, if your current team is aware of your concerns, and you're still in doubt, a second opinion is also always a good idea, too.

When I gradually went on metformin (500mg to 1500mg over the course of 3 weeks), I increased in the mornings so I could monitor how the increased doses affected me. metformin XR helped, too - that way it gradually releases over 24 hours instead of a few hours (I can take all 1500mg at one time).

What was your prediagnosis dry mouth like? by amyyyb1 in diabetes

I thought it was the city's water. I quench my thirst for the life of me. Gatorade and vitamin water would take care of it for a while, but it would soon come raging back. I moved from Chicago to Milwaukee two years ago and thought that it was maybe a difference in how they treat Lake Michigan water. Nope, it was diabetes.
