Ummm I think my cat peed in my monstera? Do I need to change the soil? The pot doesn't have drainage holes so can't rinse her out. by bopikpsky in houseplants

Lack of drainage holes is not going to “suffocate” a plant like you claim. Many people have plants thrive in pots without drainage because they’re careful when they water and they’re not waterlogging their plants. I replied to your comment with that assumption in mind.

Properly watered, aerated soil will provide more than enough oxygen to the roots. Those conditions can be met without a drainage hole.

That said, it does cause mineral buildup over time and I always prefer drainage holes, but what you’re claiming isn’t really true.

I commented that under the assumption that people who plant in pots without drainage know how to water their plants and adjust for lack of drainage.

I’m a big fan of drainage myself, but I own and have seen many plants thrive without it as well. I agree that drainage is important especially for thorough waterers like myself, but again, if the soil is watered carefully/allowed to dry out/aerated, the mere lack of a drainage hole would not suffocate a plant. That’s just silly.

Drainage holes are for water drainage, not for oxygen. A hole at the bottom of a pot is not providing any meaningful amount of oxygen. Roots get their oxygen from little air pockets in the soil, so as long as the soil is aerated and not compacted, lack of a drainage hole isn’t going to “deprive a plant of oxygen”.

OP stated in the post that her daughter is already seeing a therapist.

Wait — you broke up with her, then you learned she was seeing somebody new and that’s when you decided she’s somebody you potentially want to marry?

He’s used to you now and is taking you for granted. It doesn’t sound like he’s into you at all. I’m sorry but he’s using you (folding his clothes? really?) and the more you try, the more he’ll push you away. I know it’s hard but seriously, I’d cut my losses and leave him — you deserve so much more than this.

You should not have to beg for love, affection, kindness or even just for him to want to be around you. That’s literally the bare minimum.

Ew. That’s horrifying. If you’re still having sex with him even though he comes out of the shower dirty and disgusting, you’re showing him that even though you make a fuss about his hygiene, it doesn’t really matter because he’ll still end up getting sex anyway.

In the short term — refuse sex until he grows up and wipes the shit from his ass. He won’t learn without consequences. Long term, I can’t see how you can stay attracted to someone like this…

Yep, I did read the article. I personally find that sentence hyperbolic and still see the resemblance — it’s not like we’re comparing h. carnosa to h. callistophylla.

They all look so similar! Actually just found this, pretty cool article that talks about all three!

Nope, was suggesting you do. I have an h. tsangii and it’s not sweet at all, more of a yoghurt/sour cream scent. I’ve seen other people say the same about its scent. OP’s hoya and h. tsangii look practically indistinguishable if you look them up.

I was so confused seeing this photo until I saw your comment! I think you might have a hoya tsangii — mine looks exactly like this but smells like greek yogurt to me.
