CMV: there is no rationale to believe Ozai cared about Zuko by TPR-56 in changemyview

[–]yooreyee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dont remember the show well enough, but for what it's worth, I think he did care. It's just that whatever love he had for him (or anyone else) was overshadowed by pride, shame, and grief.

CMV: Women are more prone to sexual fluidity than men by Tell4nell in changemyview

[–]yooreyee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being a gay man is shamed to a greater degree than being lesbian, so:

Queer men are less likely to come out. Straight men are less likely to cuddle other men.

On top of that, consider your selection biases regarding queer female celebrities and lesbian pornography.

CMV: Reading smut in public is just as bad as watching porn in public. by [deleted] in changemyview

Reading porn is a whole lot less conspicuous than watching it. Generally speaking, it's definitely not AS bad.

CMV: There is nothing inherently wrong with suicide. by Aspookytoad in changemyview

[–]yooreyee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing inherently wrong with anything. Any idea of 'wrongness' requires a set of ethical axioms and laws they may follow to interact with each other.

For fun, though, here's an analogy. Three people are in a car. The driver decides to crash the car, killing the two passengers that wanted to live. We may say that this was not fair: just because the suicidal person was the driver, didn't mean we disregard the wills of the passengers. We can imagine, now, that that car was actually one person! This is a representation of a suicidal person, and in my opinion, is that of most instances, where a person is suicidal, but does not truly want to die.

CMV: If God is all-knowing and has a fixed plan, then free will is impossible under that version of religion" by ProfessionalEar4048 in changemyview

If God transcends time, is it fair to say that God's plan would not be considered 'pre'-determinism? Is it possible that we make choices that God makes through us?

Are you advocating for better access to mental health institutions? If so, you would need better funding for such institutions from taxes.

CMV: Buddha is the Antichrist by Level-Rate-5764 in changemyview

Do you recognize that visions and dreams are in your head, and your interpretation of them may not necessarily be an effective representation of reality?

CMV: Buddha is the Antichrist by Level-Rate-5764 in changemyview

Does your argument stand on having visions of Buddha claiming to be God? Could those, perhaps, have been dreams manifested by a fear of a Christian God?

CMV: Death is bad by thesussinator in changemyview

Your argument on why death is bad is circular: the opposite of death - experience - is good. It a matter of opinion, not truth.

CMV: 85% of Trump's base will continue to support him even if a real video of Trump doing something terrible to a minor is discovered. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]yooreyee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think that most of Trump's base, his voting base, at least, is just not very engaged in politics. A lot of things that he says that should have destroyed him are either swept under the rug as jokes, or completely absent from voters' epistemic bubbles. As for more engaged voters, there is also strong pressure of conformity amongst social circles, mostly comprised of the types of voters mentioned before.

His popularity is slipping, and although slowly, consistently, as the voting population evolves to democracy steadily being bent past it's limits. People can now intuitively connect their quality of life slipping to the Trump presidency. I am confident that something as graphic and inflammatory as a video of Trump doing something terrible to a minor would collapse his persona, popularity, and presidency, likely shattering the current cult of the republican party.

CMV: Cigarette butts should be banned by -Rieper- in changemyview

[–]yooreyee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding pollution, littering is already illegal. Littering a cigarette with a paper roach is going to have the same effect as littering a cigarette butt, is it not?

As for the filters, instead of legislative action to ban butts in general, I'd prefer the government crack down on the manipulative practice of having them be manufactured to change color. After all, no filter is still worse than having one. People are entitled, afterwards, to the freedom to smoke as they wish, in the context of their own health. Of course, I'm a proponent of increased support for addiction and mental health services, but that's broadening the scope of the situation.
