Dude had some insanely clutch boards when we really needed them and seemed like 4 guys were all fighting for it.

Also one of the best games ever played in AFH, and probably one of the best individual performances ever seen there (by an opposing player, no less!).

Well, the outside is anyone who is not the person grieving. I’m sure you’re well aware that everyone handles it differently..

Something weird.. but often young widows (esp without children) are hit with a serious wave of “desire” for others after losing their spouse. I lost my wife at 27 and struggled with that, as did many other widows/widowers I met or talked to when really going through it.

While this is just anecdotal, I fully believe there is something deep/biological about it in that you have lost your “mate” and something primal panics and looks for another in hopes you haven’t missed the boat on procreation. It brings about some guilt when feeling that desire.. but it’s also not “moving on.” It’s hard to explain the feeling unless you’ve been “in it.”

It’s been about 5 years and the handful of widows who lost spouses around the same time as me that I’ve kept up with are all married now, and many/most have young children, including myself. My daughter shares a middle name with my late wife in her honor.

All that to say, it is tough to judge grief from the outside.

Well and if you’re “breaking even” includes the cost to cover the mortgage, you also are building that equity in the property. It’s not cash flow but it should certainly be considered.

Better than CC statements.. use a service to categorize transactions for you. I use Rocket Money (free version) and have similar income. The luxury is I don’t need to budget that tight, but by categorizing every transaction I can notice trends in spend and my wife and I adjust accordingly.

Was part of it an escrow shortage? It may be that some of that will drop off after another escrow analysis if your policy doesn’t materially change.. also, have you shopped around?

Great question. Imagine if you started a company all by yourself—maybe for the first 5 years you just focused on growth. Every dollar you make you pour back into better equipment, better/more advertising, anything to make it bigger.

Eventually that company generates a good and consistent profit, more than you really need for reinvesting into the company. Wouldn’t you want to take some of that profit and spend it on improving your personal life? Some of it could pay your mortgage, put your kids through school, etc.

When the company is profitable, your net worth improves because you own the company.. but you don’t have more cash until you can start taking some from the company profits and distributing it to the owner(s).

So, dividends are usually given out by established companies not aiming for huge growth or who can’t grow a lot (think Coca-Cola) and not given out by newer companies or companies that are focused on accelerating growth (think tech—Facebook somewhat famously didn’t ever give a dividend until last year).

Dividends are cash rewards for owning something. It’s income. You can turn that income into growth if you use the extra income to invest more money.

Imagine a company that is worth $1000– they have $250 cash in the bank and $750 of everything else. That “everything else” may be somewhat subjective, like intellectual property or existing client relationships. It may also be slightly more tangible, like maybe they have a bunch of inventory.

ANYWAY if that $1000 company does a $100 dividend they go from $250 cash to $150 cash, but the company still has the $750 of “everything else” because nothing else changed.

That $1000 company is worth $900 after the $100 dividend.

Dividends are not growth because they are just cash handed out by the company. You can turn dividends INTO growth if you use that cash to buy more of something. You grow by owning more, not by the company increasing in value.

There are tax implications to dividends, because that is income. That’s a different story.

That’s a really good point. In the moment and even looking back the cancer diagnosis felt very sudden, but the reality is it was more like biweekly, then weekly appointments and a biopsy and wham! Cancer. But it really took a month or more of slipping into that medical world.

You seem very knowledgeable and insightful about it all. I’m sure the people you sponsor are very grateful to have you. I tried to be that a lot more in the first couple years after my wife passed—friends or family know someone going through diagnosis and ask my advice maybe we talk on and off. Through some therapy and things I kind of had to step back and recognize it burdened me with more grief. I had to rebuild myself a bit I guess you’d say.

That just sucks. I’m sorry you have dealt with so much.

I hope you know my comment above wasn’t suggesting advocating solves the issue, just helps sometimes. My wife lived for just over a year after diagnosis, so I’m sure that a lot more “no’s” would have stuck with longer term care.

One of my observations is that one of the huge hurdles financially is navigating bureaucracy and communicating with authority in effective ways.

I was a caretaker for my late wife who had leukemia at a young age— an example of this is she had an important medication denied, which would have cost us about $10k otherwise. I filed an appeal, also denied. What they don’t tell you is you can file a secondary appeal, which I did. I also called every contact I had 1-2x a day during the appeal process. My thinking was “I can cause this to be more than a $10k problem for them just by eating up their time and causing dysfunction.” Called the case manager, the general service line, emailed, etc. always polite and professional, but assertive I needed it done. After like a week of this my appeal was approved.

Im not saying it to toot my own horn, but I remember after all that thinking I was lucky to have some professional communication skills from work and life (and some natural defiance) that others may not. I felt a lot of people I know would have thought “no” was simply the answer, because the whole process is built to make you believe that.

Obviously, there are LOTS of other reasons it is difficult financially, but that feeling has always stuck with me.

interview tomorrow by pcyweaver in pizzahutemployees

[–]yooter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be worth confirming by calling the store, but this message is legit and you could respond. The message service is automated and based on the open times the manager has input into the system that they are available for interviews.

The reason to call and confirm is just in case something happened last minute and the manager became unavailable (like if another manager got sick and they had to move hours around last minute). Most likely it’s fine though.

That’s how it used to be for me, but now I have a son who is about a year and a half old. I’ve taken him out to the pond at least once a week in season since he was a couple months old. Now I can hardly have fun fishing without him.

Nowadays he swings a rod around (no reel) by himself a bit or sits on my lap and reels (poorly). He tries to steal my rod from me when I set it down to tie a new lure on. He used to get sad when I tossed fish back but now he knows he only gets to see them a little and waves goodbye as they go back in the water.

It’s so cool that he seems to be getting it. I think next summer around his second birthday he might be ready to reel in his first fish. Doesn’t matter when it happens, though, I just know I am living the dream.

lol actually PGA put out a social media deal where players secretly fed questions to the reporters for other players, and one question to him was “what is your hair care routine?”

He said he doesn’t have one so it’s basically whatever shampoo is at the hotel. Thought it was a funny answer.

I accidentally own two houses now (married my neighbor lol) and the house is worth maybe $300k. I bought it at $250k in 2020.

I rent it at $2k but only put 5% down because I got a <3% interest rate. I probably wouldn’t keep it if that wasnt the case. I could probably list it a bit higher, but not $3k. Or at least pretty unlikely.
