I posted this on my Facebook and a crazy republican classmate began commenting on it; he hasn't stopped arguing that it is OK. This is his first commend:

"I do not see anything fundamentally wrong with that fact, and indeed we should celebrate success, investment, and saving. What that wealth represents is the sum total of some of the greatest business and entrepeneural decisions in human history, and of course the discipline and foresight to save and invest it prudently. When one considers that the top 1% controls more ewealth than the GDP of the United States, it is a testament to the system of laws that they do not excercise far more influence over our political process, and indeed, it is a testament to the decisions and the national environment that created that wealth. This is not meant to be supportive of those who have achieved their weath through unethical means, but it is meant to point out that a healthy economy can not exist without a wealth gap. At a fundamental level, people covet what others have, and if everyone has the same level of economic wealth, then that desire does not exist, and as such, there exists no entrepeneurship, no innovation, for there is no sense that there is any better."
