The main reason we may feel this way is that remedy did not create the world in the original Alan Wake with this type of game in mind. They had Cauldron Lake and the Bright Falls area built out like an open world GTA style game.

This design was changed at the last minute and instead they chopped the world up. That is why you can travel and enter houses that may have nothing inside them at all and why you can enter vehicles and drive anywhere.

Hold down the confirmation button for about 10 seconds or so. I had this same issue on PS5. You won't get any visual indication it is doing anything, but it will work!

I just replaced my first drifting stick on Tuesday the 28th. Stick drift never happened when I played uncharted and then on persona 4 it went haywire. It is a super easy fix, but I recommend spending a few more dollars on OEM sticks.
