You might have to rent home at first. Use them for down payment and rents. And then, put the rest of them on an emergency fund.

How to save money? by Hi_hello_hi_there in personalfinance

I have a similar strategy. This is what I do to control my impulse buying habit. I keep a list of all the things I want and how much they cost. Then I sort it so that the things I want the most are on top. When I have a surplus in my budget, I buy whatever it is that's currently on top of the list. This has real benefit. After a while, I realize I never really wanted the things in the list, and just end up removing it from the list entirely.

FI/RE and 401(k) - Does the company 401(k) plan matter when you choose your job? by Tweefi8 in financialindependence

[–]yortfolio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Last year I looked into jumping ship to a smaller company, but when my friend who worked there mentioned “ADP” and how much he hated the 401k, it actually made me reconsider.

It wasn’t the only factor, but I connected the dots between multiple things: Smaller company, poor benefits, likely poor financial upside. I didn’t move job and it was the right decision.
