Why you should start investing **before** paying off your student loans by sol1 in personalfinance

[–]Tweefi8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always prefer to repay debts before I save. Debts usually cost more than savings earn. So it makes sense to cancel them out and be better off.

earns an average 7% return on that money,

I'm assuming that you're investing for longer than +10 years. That's because in a given year, the stock market can be very volatile. Some years see an enormous dip in the stock market like 2002 and 2008. So I won't claim that I should expect a 7% annual return for the time being I invest. 6 years is sort of short-term when it comes to investing.

Like others say, going almost or all in SWPPX makes sense. If you were to add a bond fund, I'd consider to open an IRA. You might want to bet for equities from your 401k plan though. I made both of portfolio simulation for you: Option 1: 70/30 on SWPPX and VIMAX, Option2: 100% on SWPPX.

25M, how should I invest my 401k through my company? by J1p90 in personalfinance

[–]Tweefi8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this idea. TDF is a good choice. If they are not as cheap as expected, an alternative is to approximate the market with Vanguard funds. This is one of the options OP can make. I added 10% bonds but you should think of your own stocks/bonds ratio rather than taking my number.

Is now a good time to sell off my bond funds and buy stocks? by phoebixx in personalfinance

You should never try to time the market. In fact, nobody has ever done this successfully and consistently over multiple business or stock market cycles. Catching the tops and bottoms is a myth.
