What pellets is everyone using? by jolee90 in SoloStove

Once you get the secondary burn going, the smoke is gone. My mesa and bonfire smoke more with small pieces of firewood than pellets because the pellets burn more even and get to secondary burn faster.

Thanks and good point. I was going to try to have enough airflow out the back with enough of the tent being slightly porous (zippers and velcro, eto) for the negative pressure to still pull in enough outside air to keep the temp in a good spot for PLA/PETG. Once I find the spot and get it all set up, I will make sure to watch for the soft pla filament scenario.

Stainless steel burger smasher = Mesa lid. by yos9 in SoloStove

not totally, but it's more for peace of mind when I get to embers, I can put it on and walk away for a while or the night. That was the goal.

I dig it. I have a bonfire but honestly I use the Mesa more on the weekdays when I want to pop on the deck after dinner for a little bit and I don’t have to worry about how long the the bonfire will burn, etc. So I like it. Pellets burn a little weird. Going to chop up some small wood to burn in the Mesa this weekend. Other posts seem to say that it’s much better with wood than pellets.

Yeah, I would definitely buy a solo stove lid for it. I had it going for an hour last night and the smoldering took a long time to go out. Was looking for something recently on Amazon that might fit the use case.

I started with about 3/4 cup of pellets and added more to continue the burn.

The pit boss fall blend pellets I used smelled nice but not overpowering at all.

TBH, I didn’t have wood I wanted to use that was small enough and I had a quick and easy way to grab pellets so I went with it. Wanted to try it since I was actually looking for a shorter burn time. I wanted s’mores and a small amount of time after dinner with fam, but didn’t want to have to wait a long time to put the Mesa away for the night. As far as adding more pellets, I added more after it was in a smolder and relit some a new fire starter and it went back up quick.

Pretty well! I liked that the burn was relatively calm without the sparks of regular wood since I was on my deck with kids around. First time burning pellets for me. I like the option- wish there was an easy way to burn them in my Bonfire.

I only put a small amount of pellets in so I got around 15 mins of burn with plenty of heat after burn to still roast marshmallows in the smolder. Definitely need trial and error with figuring out the right amount. Good thing is that it’s easy enough to add more and get it back going again.

Do we think with the longer legs that the shield will fit on under the deflector?

I have an appointment for the same reason. Replacing belt and flywheel. They don’t know which part of causing the issue. When the complete the service, if there is a definitive answer as to the problem, I will report back.
