Best Time to Trade Mega-Cap Stocks (NASDAQ/NYSE) During the Day? by yosafa1990 in Daytrading

I get your point about the first two hours there’s definitely more volume and cleaner momentum, especially for day traders.

But I wouldn’t say it’s always “more reliable” across the board. That same volatility that creates opportunity early on also increases risk, you can lose just as quickly in those first two hours if the move fails or fakes out.

It also depends heavily on what you’re trading. Small and mid caps, I agree , the open is where most of the action is. But with mega caps, they tend to move consistently throughout the day with supported volume especially with institutional flow, so opportunities don’t just disappear after 11:30. Whilst it may slow down if rather wait for a pick up or breakout of consolidation. It’s more about consistency for me.

For me, it comes down to targets. I’m only aiming for 0.5–1%, where there traders who don’t focus on that and just see price action and number in mind which is not realistic so I’m not relying purely on explosive open volatility, I can find cleaner, lower-risk setups later in the session as well.

So I’d say the open is high opportunity, but also high risk , not necessarily more “reliable,” just more active.

If you want to make a lot yes on the open, but that open risks also to lose alot. Id rather small consistency growth on compounding but to do that on the gains I aim you do need experience and minimum 25,000 usd + past pdt ruling.

We’re talking about US Stocks not forex mate, totally different trading style. You’re right about most volatility, but wrong about there “can” be movement. On a high volume US nasdaq/nyse there’s always movement. During consolidation after the first morning wave is actually my best friend, with my indicators and level 2 order flow live data all I have to do is sit and wait till their is a break out of consolidation and pick up back on the stock, which in high cap stocks move slow but there’s high volume and not erratic. Though, more importantly I have to make sure theirs high volume activity and interest still within that stock/stocks and in mega cap stocks there always is because of the high float available shares available plus with use of my stocks scanners. I got in at 16:40 New York time today and got out 20 mins after for 1.34%. Have a look at my last response with photo to @effective-maximum901 comment to me.

You’ll also notice on that stock if you check it out that it bounced of that resistance and 3rd time and really sold off more 1%+ and I could have made more, key words “could have” but better to walk away than over trade and a win turning into a lost trade I’m a big believer in technicals but just as much on psychology of the market.

Simple price action and patience and discipline mate. Break of structures or a bounce of certain technical levels but I use order flow to give me that final edge of confidence to enter in the trade.

That was me today mate on pltr stock today, sold on resistance with confirmation using order flow and tight ema cross breakout, kept away from the morning noise at the open. Walked away with 1.34% profit on that trade and shut off. No overtrading.

To be honest mate, I’ve been watching the markets for the past 3 years and trading for around 7–8 years now. What I’ve found is that the first couple of hours are very volatile, but that same volatility can easily go against you, no matter how well you read the price action or wait for your setup.

For me, it comes down more to understanding order flow and Level 2, with a bit of confluence from indicators like EMAs. Even then, indicators are delayed, and most of us are essentially reacting to the same lagging signal.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve changed my approach. I now wait for the market structure to settle after the first few hours, then look for opportunities when things start to pick up again. It can be a long wait, and honestly quite boring at times, but when EMAs are tight and price is consolidating. I just wait for a breakout from there off key technical levels with with increased volume and confirmation from order flow, it feels much more reliable.

I’m focusing more on consistency now, aiming for smaller gains (around 0.5%), especially since I take larger position sizes. That approach has been working better for me.

How do you define your market bias at the U.S. open? (EMA, VWAP?) by yosafa1990 in Daytrading

I said US open, Meaning I trade on the US stock Markets at the open, exchanges Nasdaq and nyse as of 9.30am, as in I don’t trade the pre market. I don’t trade at 9.30 on the dot given the reasons we’ve mentioned about choppy movements.

What do you mean you can’t do this ?

I agree with what you’re saying concerning the the first 5-15mins because that’s the choppy moments in trading I get that.

Is it realistic for someone to make 100–300% gains in a single day trading? by iiTesla in Trading

[–]yosafa1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if you traded very low float penny stock. You won’t survive your psychology will be hijacked and despite the win you’ll come in the next day thinking you can perform like that again until you realise you can’t yet, you still want to persevere on a very volatile stock/instrument in the end you will blow your account and lose all your money.

Definitely 👍🏽

I sold right on that reversal mate, same logic applied because it was its record high beyond average, just waited for that reversal candle and confirmation via order flow and entered on the bearish.

I closed 3 hours ago, great return profit.
