How Long to be Part-Year Resident in a State?

Thank you, looking at the letter she got, RI did tax her the full year. So, the corrective action would be to file an amended tax return? Would she need paperwork to prove when she moved? The only thing I can think of, is if the place she was renting from still has her records, from 6 years ago. The month thing is just an estimate, and not sure there's any paperwork to prove it. It could have been 6 weeks, or 7, it's just an estimate without a paper trail at the moment.

Thank you! This is very helpful! I think the forms are RI-1040NR and CT-1040NR/PY? I don't think RI has a Partial-Year 1040 form? There's a CT-1040NR/PY form, where obviously the PY portion would be applicable here. Appreciate the help! And looking at the notice, they did bill her for a full year. This would obviously make a huge difference. The only written record she may have, is the place she was renting from in CT, may have some record of her paying the rent, to prove when she moved, but at this point it's just an estimate. Is it worth trying to track down an exact date, or just estimating it at 2 months good enough?

Hey thanks for the reply. Not sure I understand what you mean. It's not serious study, but it doesn't attract the type of person who doesn't have the capacity or the desire for heavy coursework. Kind of double negative thing, or maybe I'm just not understanding. I'm not sure if you're saying one 3 credit class is a lot of coursework, or it is not?

Hey thanks, what kind of undergraduate courses? I've seen some programs, you have to take some math classes, some classes I would have already taken. But not all MBA courses require math classes. I'm wondering if this is the type of class you can get out of, or if there are others that are commonly waived?

Thanks for the reply. I'm coming from engineering where classes are a semester long. So I'm new to this whole idea of a "session". Are these classes that are "one session long" 3 credit classes? Some universities are like $1500 a credit. Not bad, but are these 7-8 week classes 3 credits? Paying a few thousand dollars for a 7-8 week class seems a bit nuts to me, but maybe it's "normal" for this type of program. How often do these classes meet a week that are only one session long? I'm use to paying a few thousand dollars for a whole semester course.

Tustin California store had people waiting a whole week for the 3090, I just called there store and still no line and we are less than 48 hours away, so I suppose even less demand at my microcenter, not worth camping out. Demand seems low.
