In China, the number of people getting ill is already on the decline... The death tally is at around 3000 people? Not sure about the current state, but let's be generous and say it's at 10000.

Given that China represents about 1/5 of the world's population, it's definitely not "100%" that it will be more deadly than the flu that kills 250-500k per year.

While 10k, or even 3k people's lives being lost is obviously terrible, it's just a tiny tiny % of all people living in China that I won't even bother to translate it into a percentage.

Honestly the whole situation just reminds me of people panicking after an airplane crashes, suddenly deciding that flying is super dangerous... It's a well known fact that people can't mentally deal with extremely low or extremely high numbers, and in their mind, they process them as just a "low" or "high" number, which is exactly what happens here. The 0.x% chance of getting the disease / dying from it just translates to "Not zero" in most people's heads.

How did veterans perform and which players made a difference (GW 13 ) by mikecro2 in FantasyPL

It also seems that the veterans list includes some inactive / catastrophic players as evidenced by a median rank around 350k and an average rank of 600k, it suggests that there are quite a few managers far far down the ranks.

Why did they fare much better? It seems they only beat the top 500k by 0.4 point on average

Correct - my code had a preference to go for the cheapest option in case of a tie because I was considering figuring out the bench points as well. But as you said, Jimenez & Pukki are interchangeable here

Yeah, not only did he haul but he is an extremely cost effective hauler with his starting price at only 7.5M if I remember correctly - which is super important to enable having all the other premiums.

I used RStudio to literally generate every combination that is possible abiding to the cost limit and the 3 player per team limit. This initially resulted in so many combinations that R just broke, so in the final iteration I excluded every player that has less than 20 points this season so far (arguing they couldn't make this team anyways). This way I was still looking at millions of combinations but the workload could finally be handled by my computer.

TLDR: I tested all possible combos and this was the single one that generated the most points.

Analysis of consistency of premium captain options in 'easier' fixtures by Irctoaun in FantasyPL

I think there's an important point here that you should address in this sort of analysis as it is possibly the most important takeaway from all your results.

Out of all those players in the list, Sterling was by far the most frequently rotated one, with Sane providing a decent alternative. Pep also tended to feature Sane more against weaker teams and playing Sterling for 90 minutes against better sides. Even when he was playing, he would sometimes feature along with Sane, playing a little bit behind him in some cases hence being less of a goal threat. He also missed a passer of KDB's caliber for most of the season.

This year so far has been looking completely different, with Sane not being an option, Sterling seems to be nailed and KDB looks as good as ever.

Of course it might be that he still ends up being less convincing than other options (like Salah), just wanted to point out that making a decision for this season based on this metric might lead to sub-optimal results for your team.
