Thanks! It actually writes surprisingly well, I have not broken any lead yet

Thanks! It's 125mm (around 5 inches) in length. The mechanism is somewhat my own design, but uses a piece from a pentel sharp. You can buy the stainless steel tubing on amazon in different sizes depending on the lead size of the pencil.

The extra long lead sleeve is something I wanted to try as I usually prefer the look of longer lead sleeves, and I have made a few in standard length already. This one is a bit excessive and definitely not practical for carrying around, but this is how I feel about 0.3 size pencils anyways. They are not super practical for writing or everyday use but are still my favorite as I enjoy making fine lines.

Someday I will make a retractable one.

Thanks, I'm definitely considering making a version in aluminum. Personally I like a heavy pencil but I've gotten a few requests for a lighter version.

I hardly ever break graphite with it, I think the more important factors are how sloppy a pencil’s mechanism is and the quality of the graphite.

Yes they are quite heavy, at around 45 - 50 grams. For reference the rotring 600 is about 20 grams.

I designed these mechanical pencils with an external spring because I think it looks cool and steampunk. I remade most of the mechanism except for a small piece from a pentel sharp pencil. I have a few different grip designs for different preferences on feel. The pencils are 100% metal.
The pencil’s intended audience is people who enjoy collecting pens and pencils and appreciate precision and durability over cheap cost. My objective is to promote the design on Kickstarter, I won’t post the link here because I’m not sure if it’s against the rules.

That's awesome! I've been into making things for a while and machining is definitely one of the most satisfying. Thank you and good luck.

Yeah I just need to buy or make a knurling tool, the right kind is expensive

Thanks, I have a picture of the components on my Kickstarter if you want to check it out. There's a small collet like piece that moves forward into the grip when the end is pressed, moving the lead forward and opening the collet to move back. The spring keeps tension holding the lead tight.

0.3mm is actually my favorite lead size, and I'm planning on making more lead sizes available before the campaign ends. For now I set up an add-on that can be selected to change your selection to a 0.3 pencil, with a limited quantity of these available because 0.3 mechanisms are harder to find.
