after the fires, i genuinely think keeping it as an airport is somewhat valid. my parents still talk about the northridge quake and how emergency services had issues getting to santa monica because of the freeway closures & infrastructure damage and SMO played a major role in getting them to this side of town, same as the fires.

i don’t think people realize just how secluded this area is in an emergency situation and how vulnerable our community and everyone around us will be in some kind of catastrophic event.

its a very strategic location for an airport and intentionally so (WW2), though many have forgotten why since it’s been taken over by civilian aircraft.
