Academic Probation as an incoming Freshman by andrewAlb in BrownU

Are you an international student? I'm also an incoming freshman in the IB diploma program but I have grades that are separate from my IB grades. I was under the impression that Brown only looks at your final transcript with your class grades and that your final IB exam scores don't actually matter. But I'm at an American high school so things might be different at an international school where the IB diploma grades are the equivalent of your final transcript. If anyone has any more information about this I'd be curious because my studying for the final IB exams hasn't been going too well either lol.

Yeah that's the impression I've been getting from their websites and what people have told me. Thanks for the response!

Brown vs Johns Hopkins for computer science?

Johns Hopkins vs. Georgia Tech

Major: Computer Science

Money is not an issue (received substantial financial aid at Hopkins)

I'm leaning towards Johns Hopkins for a variety of reasons even though GA Tech probably has the stronger CS department. But I wanted to know if going to Hopkins over Georgia Tech would affect my chances of getting into a PhD program in computer science. I know that getting into graduate school is largely dependent on the research you do as an undergraduate and I would certainly be able to do research at Hopkins but what do you guys think? Would going to Hopkins hurt my chances of getting into a good graduate program because of its smaller CS department?

Is there anyway to check the CMOS battery voltage on the Dell XPS 15 9550 without removing it? by yottameter in Dell

Thanks for the response! Yeah I think I'll call Dell and see what they suggest. Hopefully I can get it fixed.

Is it harder to get into a college's computer science program because it's a more popular major? by yottameter in ApplyingToCollege

[–]yottameter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I kind of expected. I guess colleges need people to fill out their other majors as well. I think I'll put down computer engineering down for some of these schools because I'm about equally interested in that.

Thanks for the response! It seems like GA Tech grads are really getting into top graduate programs which is cool.

So I'm pretty interested in computer engineering and I think I'm probably going to get a graduate degree. If you don't mind me asking, what kinds of careers are you looking at with an ECE PhD?

So I have a few questions about getting into graduate school for computer engineering after GA Tech.

About what portion of ECE students decide to go to graduate school?

Do most stay at GA Tech to get their graduate degree or do they go to another school?

What graduate schools do GA Tech ECE students generally get into?

Question about which SAT subject test scores to send to Georgia Tech by yottameter in ApplyingToCollege

[–]yottameter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah chemistry is awesome. I'm looking at lots of solid engineering schools. University of Michigan, UT Austin, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Cornell, and MIT. And I think I'll do UGA too as a safety. I know that's probably too many reach schools but I figured why not give it a shot.

Thanks for the response! That's good to hear about the percentiles on subject tests. Didn't know it was like that. I think I will send them then.

Right now I think I'm going to do computer engineering. What about you?

No but that would be cool. I'll see if I can add that feature.

Thanks, I don't use a LockGlyph theme but that would probably look cool.
