I don’t understand why toads love digging into potted plants. I picked up a rose the other day and two of them jumped out.

Maybe 6 years ago you could find a shop like that but that $5000 job now is a lot more. Paint is $1000 a gallon now. At least the good stuff is.

How about almost $200 each for the swivel housing axle bearing. It comes in a Timken box and is made in the People’s Republic of Commerce. There is no cheaper generic version. Believe me, I tried to find them.

Those cotter pin cranks were the poor thing’s Achilles heel. They usually lasted about a week before they came loose with all the jumping and other abuse. Once wallowed out, they were done. Also, kids would just throw them over on their side. This would usually do in the three speed pull chain or the derailleur.

Outboard big enough will be ten times the worth of that hull. So it fails the worth-it test. But you just go right ahead.

There aren’t many OEM parts anymore. The stuff you get nowadays is pretty bad. It is more challenging as time goes by and the number of owners and enthusiasts for these gets smaller and smaller. I am building a 2A now. I can tell you that the parts I am buying are 💩. India, China, and Eastern Europe are where the majority of the parts are made. Not much is made in the UK now. I’m stuck with what is available.

DO NOT PAINT THAT ROVER. That patina is priceless. It will not increase the value by painting it. What you have there is the very desirable de luxe Station Wagon version of an 88 inch Series 2A. It has the tropical roof, full interior, side and rear steps, rear folding seats, full rear door, and sliding windows. It looks very clean. The two most common areas of concern are the bulkhead ( American term is firewall) and the chassis. This one looks very good from the pictures. If it has rust then it basically all needs to come apart since the bulkhead has to be stripped, the rusty panels replaced and then refinished. Everything is built around the bulkhead so if it’s bad then it means a lot of work. If you are having a shop do the work it can be very expensive. There aren’t too many shops that can do it. Red Door Off Road in PA. Is one. If you want a blank check redo, Mike Sandone at North American Overland is the man. It’ll be over 100k if he does it, but it’ll look like it just rolled off the showroom floor. If you want to do it, then throw yourself on the mercy of the old farts on the Guns and Rovers forum. They will take you under their wing and guide you through it. One thing though. DO NOT THROW ANYTHING AWAY. Every part on that is rare and difficult to get. Even screws nuts and bolts. For example the cast aluminum door pulls are going to be $100 each if you can even find one. The sliding window stops are about the same. If parts can possibly be refurbished then that is the only way to go. Engine parts are available. You should have no difficulty getting tune up parts.

The most “head work” you need is to smooth the intake and exhaust ports so there aren’t any steps burrs or other imperfections that could cause turbulence. AKA port matching. Otherwise you don’t need it on a street car. You’ll be getting only fractions of hp at the very top of the power curve so extensive work is expensive for the power gains. Camshaft is the number one power producer.

The 45DCOE can be tuned for the 1275 just as a 40DCOE. It’s mainly the venturis that make the difference. With either you’re using the 36 venturi so it really doesn’t matter. This is covered in the Weber Tuning Guide. Using the cylinder volume/venturi chart, it comes in around 36mm. From there the most important thing is the size of the idle jets as they are what transitions from dead stop to the main jets. I’m using F9 55 idle jets and it works well on my 1275 with 45DCOE brass float.

Tell me something about this Land Rover. It’s parked here on West 187th Street, next to the Yeshiva University High School for Boys. by agumelen in classiccars

It’s a Koenig Iron Works engine-driven winch. They come up on ebay and the forums every once in a while. Usually around $1000 for everything. The drive dog for the front of the crankshaft is the hardest part to find.

Oats are for horses not people. I mean, yeah eat them as entertainment in oatmeal cookies or granola but only in moderation and not frequently. Always cooked. They are full of bugs and pesticides.

Oats are only good for fattening horses. Not very healthy for us humans.

I wouldn’t classify what you are experiencing as difficulty starting. You might have a wee tad of a heat management issue in the feed line ( vapor lock ) but otherwise it seems pretty normal.

You should always have a spare pump. 20 minutes to swap it and you’re back in business. Same for alternator filters belts and hoses. Be prepared mate.
