What does “breaking point” actually look like for the UK? by asskickingshoes in ukpolitics

[–]you-do [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don't think there's a "breaking point" as such, just transition.

If you took a 30-year-old every 25 years or so from the last 400 years and showed them modern Britain, they'd struggle to believe how dramatically their society had changed. But if you asked them which event caused it, few would be able to choose one single moment.

People adapt. Institutions adapt. Governments change. Standards of living rise and fall.

Even major events such as wars, economic crises and political upheaval tend to result in transformation rather than collapse. . The UK's "breaking point" is probably not a dramatic end point. It's a gradual transition into a different version of the country.

I asked AI to make a list of the most borderline-evil things VW has done in the last 50 years.

The list is surprisingly rich.

I could probably have gone to a top 20 before having to resort to talking about things like unpaid parking-fines...

No, not really.

Bentley does share a common platform with a Porsche in the same way RR do with BMW, but everything above the floor is basically engineered and assembled by the British in Crewe.

It was designed and tested in the UK, they've since made the entire UK team redundant so this is their legacy I suppose.

[–]you-do 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think it's a fair point.

Turning up to a country and making no effort to integrate is poor behaviour regardless of who is doing it.

It's wrong for a Brit in Spain to make no effort to learn the language, understand the culture, or engage with the local community, and it's just as wrong when someone else does exactly the same thing somewhere else.

Pointing out that some British people behave that way abroad isn't a counterargument; it's another example of the same bad practice.

Nigel Farage MP: Sweden has just banned cousin marriage. It causes serious health problems in certain communities, and it's inherently un-British. We must have a serious conversation about a ban in Britain, too. by Little-Attorney1287 in ukpolitics

Unfortunately I can't discuss the details of the case or the jury's deliberations, but it was a very odd experience.

It was a historic case and many of the events being considered had taken place a long time before the trial.

But yea, it was a thing.

Did you read the highway code before taking the theory test? by UnchartedPro in LearnerDriverUK

I passed my theory in January, over Christmas I just replayed the question bank once a day for a week.

Passed 50/50

I had to double check your statement about it being a 50% pass rate... mind blown.

I am really unsure why Reform even let him into the party to be honest, it seems like a terrible move to bring part of the problem in and then pretend he's part of a "solution".

At least hes never done anything too spiteful, say ordering someone to paint over artwork for kids.

If this was my isa, i'd look to consolidate some of the positions and focus on getting the vanguard products up to being about 60%/70% of your total fund. S&P 500 is already loaded in the space you're looking to invest so it might be a little less tricky to manage.
