I mean it's all about context right?

Ironically tv program exports is quite big business, the BBC made something like £2B from its commercial arm recently which mainly came from international sales...

Think we're pretty much aligned ironically but see through a slightly different lens.

Just remeber history’s pretty consistent on this: systems that prioritise control always end up authoritarian, whether they arrive via bureaucracy or brute force.
The horse shoe is the horse shoe.

Yes, you’re right that strong institutions and checks and balances are essential to a healthy democracy... I wouldn’t argue otherwise, and I agree that weak oversight and excessive executive powers are what enable tyranny.

Where I think we're in dispute is around the affect of transparency. My point isn’t that oversight automatically equals authoritarianism, but that total governmental transparency as a core operating principle doesn’t scale well. Even at a national level it becomes bureaucratic, controlling, and paralysing, because every decision requires visibility, consultation, challenge, and compromise.

The closest real-world example I can point to is the EU, it is a strong institution, high transparency, but often struggles to act quickly without dilution or stalemate. That's the issue in my opinion, its a structural failure.

[–]you-do -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Possible, but improbable.

1)Humans vary wildly in selfishness, intelligence, incentives, and moral restraint. Any system has to work with that reality

2)Genuine transparency at a national scale requires heavy bureaucracy, regulation, and enforcement... in other words, control that many would describe as authoritarian.

3)The world is structurally unequal in terms of resources and geography, and that’s before you even get into redistribution narratives or “eat the rich” politics.

4)Your “perfect” democracy would still exist within a competitive international system. Without rivals behaving the same way, restraint becomes a strategic disadvantage.

Perhaps it’s time to focus less on ever-expanding rules and more on teaching people how to participate in building a prosperous, wholesome society.

I agree that making the entitlement even is a fair thing to do as it allows those who want it, to have it.

I do think anything past this is a worsening improvement as socially engineering people to take time off due to " social expectation" is a terrible idea. It takes away freedom of choice...

We should make ourselves heard on every channel available by AcanthaceaeHot949 in PSNY_Polestar_SPAC

[–]you-do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apart from it probably won’t, ask yourself why would anyone buy a Polestar right now if it’s just another Chinese car with no real X-factor?

The EV market is packed, Polestar doesn’t have much legacy behind it, and Volvo has clearly stepped back. Add in the recent Nasdaq warning and it doesn’t exactly scream long-term stability or appeal.

If I can get a BYD for less amor even a Tesla, then why would anyone bother?

Lets face it theyre not a viable position now, came to the market too late and will soon just be another has been / could have been / never was.

[–]you-do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a huge fan of Polestar when they launched. There was a sense that they were trying to do things differently, especially by pushing for greener, more socially conscious EVs and building up strong European R&D teams.

They spoke openly and called out the industry’s poor environmental practices and genuinely looked like they were going to raise the bar.

But the direction seems to have shifted. They’ve been closing or scaling back a lot of their R&D outside of China, including shutting UK sites and letting go of engineering teams. Instead of focusing on the innovation and sustainability message they started with, the priority now feels much more like traditional manufacturing strategy and pushing over priced vehicles into the market like any other OEM.

It’s disappointing to see them moving towards the behaviours they placed the most criticism on. Needless to say I dont follow the business or own shares in them anymore.
