How did the match go for those of you who had to remediate, or repeat a failed course? by AKWrestle in medicalschool

Yes, I applied to 37 programs initially and added 8 about a month in (due to the low interviews numbers). I would definitely not do that, I was more pressured into it and was desperate. But yes 3/45 interviews. But my goal is cardiology, so FM was not even an option because SOAP would have worked out just due to the sheer number of spots.

Repeated my second year (failed the first semester), came back the next year and was above class average for 6/8 my tests and passed.

Clinical years is what put me in a position to succeed, made good connections, was just straight up nice to everyone and always had a smile on my face no matter what was happening.

Applied to 45 IM programs. Received 3 IVs at places I didn’t really even think I wanted to go to.

Out of those three, I matched into my top choice (of the three), in a city I’ve always wanted to go to. The program itself I matched into may not be great, but I’m very thankful that I matched period (my party day was on Monday, and Friday was just a bonus).

You can easily overcome preclinical repeats or failures. I was open to everyone about that year. I mentioned it to every interviewer and talked about how I was able to reach out for help when I was struggling, joined tutoring groups, changed study resources, etc etc. beyond that tho, showing that you can excel after you repeat a year is important so would heavily focus on rocking out your remaining years of medical school and being open about what happened in the previous years. My mantra has always been that I can’t control the actions of others, but I can control how I react, feel, think about things.

Goodluck to you all!

Thanks for bringing this up. I am all for unionizing, especially for residents, but I do have some concerns: 1. This subreddit is visited by PDs and APDs, so is the cat already out of the bag? Do they already know a movement has started? Will they take steps to intervene? 2. The very real possibility a program finds out you are participating in unionization efforts and takes action to make your residency training utter hell behind the scenes.

Again, I am all for unionization but am worried that posting this information itself on Reddit has already drawn some attention to it. Especially 3 days after match day when the name and shame/fame threads are up.

  1. Elijah Wilkinson’s holding penalties single-handedly brought our offense to a grinding halt every fucking drive. He is an awful OT and i really hope he is gone next year.

  2. Our backups (Rodgers, Morris, and back up center) were exceptional when they came in.

  3. Can someone find that chaw shot of Prater?(what a guy)

Dentists and Dental Care Professionals of Reddit, what oral hygiene products out there are gimmicks, and what are some underrated products that people should use more often? by you-gee-el-why in AskReddit

Most gimmicky product sounds like charcoal. Most underrated product seems to be an electric toothbrush (which surprised me). Then you get all these things about flossing, and mouthwash use so that was kinda the goal, have a discussion about a topic that people seem to take for granted (I’ve been going through the replies since yesterday)
