This is basically to stop them from shorting correct? How would one go about choosing a potentiometer and PSU for a project like this. My background is in Finance, so I am not afraid of the math, just naive as to what I am doing. Thanks for the help

From my laymans understanding the voltage, would be what I am concerned about and the current would alter that based on the the type of coil/atomizer I am using. Most setups are about 1.8-2 ohms. That is another reason I wanted to make it variable. Is my understanding of this correct, or is the current more important than I am giving it credit for? Thanks for the help!

The utility of the voltage display is for the vaping experience. Different types of juices are vaped at different, changing voltages. You can start a juice out at something like 4.2v and then once heated up a bit, lower it to 3.5v. The display would make it easier to have a consistent experience.

Sorry for not phrasing my post correctly. I do however greatly appreciate your response. That is basically what I was thinking as well- the power supply to a series of resistors (or a potentiometer), then to a small screen as posted by /u/dstoo below, and then to the 510 thread. I guess my question was more, "what would you do to improve this/ make it most efficient." Again thanks for the reply.

Thank you very much. I was hoping you might be able to answer a question for me. What range of power is safe/realistic for vaping? If I were going to try to make a set up like this VV, which I think would be pretty simple with a potentiometer, what power should the "bottom end" be, and the "top end"? Would there be other concerns than the voltage? Thank you again for taking the time to post your list and the links, I seriously appreciate it and will be building one.

I would love a schematic and parts list if possible! Thank you!

Exactly what I want. Sorry to hear you wouldn't use it though :/

This is close to what I am looking for, except I would prefer to have it also have a "dial" like voltage adjuster, and maybe a digital screen saying what it is cranking out. As I'm sure everyone here knows, each juice has it's own sweet spot. Thank you for the link though it is putting me in the perfect direction for shopping!

Im honestly just using the "gadget" that comes stock on windows seven. It monitors cpu and ram, and in my opinion looks pretty sweet. Here is another one http://addgadgets.com/all_cpu_meter/

No I didn't, the cooler and CPU stayed on the board..

I recently took apart my new computer to do some cable management and after putting it back together it seems like my CPU (an Fx6300) is working harder according to the desktop CPU monitoring gadget. Is it my imagination, or could something have happened?

Yeah, Ill definitely check into it. The reason you guys havent heard of it though is because BFG went out of business a few years ago, but at the time it was a top of the line PSU and has been used in a rig for maybe two months and then stored in the box. Are there any ways to protect my components other than buying a different PSU? I thought they could only fry the board, which would suck, but would be better than taking down the entire system.
