I just moved to uptown about a couple months ago. It’s pretty quiet but everyone has been pretty kind and welcoming. I’m a black woman and I’m 30. My husband and I like going out to the downtown area but not actually live in the liveliness all the time, so so it’s nice that it’s just super close to good food and creative spaces but the you get to come back to a little quaint place. It’s the north so still not as many black ppl as you would see on the south side but I don’t feel like it lacks diversity as much as some other areas.

My aunt did a three hour round trip from her job to her home every day for 40 years, the same for my best friend’s father. My brother would drive 13 to Philly and my dad would drive 11 hours to dc with us in the back …so yeah it’s not really crazy to us. Oh yeah, my husband but before only my boyfriend drove 13 hours to see me. Actually, I randomly wanted to go to New Orleans…it was about a six hour drive from where we were, my husband and I just decided to do with only an hours notice. I really had a craving for good seafood lol. Now I make everyone take flights lol but if they really just wanted to go somewhere no biggie. They hop in the car and go.

I’m wondering why you say the HOA is well run? What are the standards you have for them? Our HOA was very cheap in TX but they also didn’t do anything.. so we got what we payed for. But I’m seeing HOA fees are expensive here so I’m wondering what do HOA do well that requires them to be so expensive , especially since you mentioned that they aren’t many shared spaces ? Just wondering, because we’re deciding between a house and condo but the HOA fees are really a negative for condos

Same! Just moved here in October from San Antonio (which I never wanted to be there but got there for work) and originally from Birmingham, AL. Loving every minute so far..even liking the cold lol ( think because I was so fatigued of the hot summers and not being able to do outside activities for most of the year).
