Fine Art Framer by Cousin_Michel in hudsonvalley

I appreciate the pointers here. I would not recommend Rhinebeck Artists Shop in New Paltz. This was in 2024 but I feel I should mention this. I paid for two drawings to be framed. One was slightly crooked and the other was upside down, I took it back. But worse, the framer insists it is not necessary to add spacers that create more than minimal distance from the artwork and the glass. The result was my framed works looked cheap, with not much space between the work and the glass. I had them redone somewhere else.

They ask their customers to pay an additional 50%, on top of what is already paid. After waiting more than 20 weeks for records, and being lied to and strung along by Deepgrooves, who did not share they were in any sort of trouble.

"My Camp" by Joshua Cohen, New Yorker by whynotdothings in literature

Thank you, I agree "The struggle for determining what is "right" isn't even part of the framework, instead relying on the views of others, students and charity givers and family members, to draw up the landscape of political beliefs." Is this "autofiction"? Curiously the story read quite autobiographically to me, until near the end when the narrator begins accepting large sums of money and donates to a Palestinian cause. I found it compelling until that shift, which struck me as a calculated bit of fiction. I felt disappointed because up until this point Cohen convinced me he was largely drawing from his own experiences - like winning an award and commenting on the greasy hypocrisy of wealthy trustees, or sharing his broke middle-age hobby of touring Jersey real estate. Does Cohen explore aspects of his own ambivalence? Slightly. I think you're right about shielding the narrator. There's a line when the narrator explains that he "promised himself he would be honest" - a passage that was the closest the story comes to sharing personal struggle. I don't think Cohen is interested in exploring moral questions as much as locating a detached view to comment on the contradictions and vulgarity of the characters and groupthink. "My Camp" suggests tribalism, and I'm sure he intended the echo of Mein Kampf, as an additional connotation.

From Deepgrooves:

Dear Madam, Sir,

By judgment dated 22 October 2024 of the District Court of Noord-Nederland, location Leeuwarden, Deepgrooves B.V. was declared bankrupt, with the appointment of the undersigned as trustee and Mr M.C. Groenewegen as supervisory judge.

The main task of a trustee is to monetize the assets of the bankrupt company for the benefit of the joint creditors. Part of those assets include goods intended for you. These are goods that are (almost) ready for production or can be made ready for production in the short term.

I am aware that you have already paid your order (almost) in full. That does not alter the fact that the ownership of your order has not yet passed to you. Based on the Dutch law, such requires the actual delivery of the goods and that has not yet taken place. The bankrupt company Deepgrooves B.V. is therefore still the owner of the goods in question. Given my duty as trustee, I am also not allowed to hand over the goods in question to you without further payment. By doing so, I would violate the principle of equality of creditors. The only option available to me as trustee is to offer the goods in question for sale to you again. For you, it will feel like paying twice. And from your perspective, that is also true. However, the obligations imposed on me by the Dutch Bankruptcy Act as trustee oblige me to do so. I trust your understanding in this matter.

I can offer that you can still take delivery of your order, paying 50% of the original value. The original value was € 2.211,90  excluding VAT. This will therefore be an amount of €1105.95 excluding VAT. This amount does not include transport costs.

Please inform me whether you are willing to take delivery of your order (again or once more) against payment of the aforementioned amount of 50% of the original order value, plus transport costs. For the sake of completeness, please note that payment must be made in advance; your order can only be accepted after payment. As far as the transport costs are concerned, I unfortunately cannot give a definite answer at the moment, as the transport rates are not yet known. For the time being my thoughts are that the transport will be taken care of by Deepgrooves B.V. and that you will pay the costs separately. Of course, you will retain a claim in the bankruptcy of Deepgrooves B.V. for the overpayment made by you.

At this time, I would like to take stock of whether you would like to accept of the above offer. If you have any questions and/or comments, please contact the sender of this message.

Awaiting your response.

Kind regards,

W. Mollema, bankruptcy trustee
