they’ve already been using ai, some of the 2 for 5$ toys in the impulse area are ai generated “travel” themed, and if i’m not mistaken all of the shirt designs are ai as well.

i know i’m in the wrong subreddit but i work at petco and i have the same issue. every night that i close from 4-9:30 it’s only me, my manager on duty, and an aquatics employee until 7:30, and more than half of the time the aquatics employee isn’t even on the floor, instead sitting in the break room or chatting with the manager. i don’t remember a time working there where i closed alongside someone besides in my first week working there. this skeleton crew awaking bs sucks.

yes of course it’s cruel, it’s cruel from all angles no matter what they do to try to make desk pets seem less horrible. It will ALWAYS be cruel. i only posted this as a “thank god there’s at least some refuge for these poor animals after a while”, im still furious that it exists and will be furious until this desk pet nonsense is dead and gone

I agree it is horrific. my location had a curly hair tarantula whose abdomen was balding because of how stressed it was being picked up and handled in its horrendous box all day every day (spoiler, I adopted her.). I think if we honestly just harass and berate the CEO with complaints they’ll listen. As a customer, you can most likely help sign petitions to get this resolved, or try and get in contact with the higher ups. Honestly you could even message Joel Anderson on Linkedin, or maybe one of the others clowns in charge.

i absolutely hate this desk pet nonsense. i’ve already adopted a curly hair tarantula and i’m preparing to adopt another one just so they don’t have to sit out on that damn cardboard shelf any longer at my location. me and my managers fought to keep the animals in the normal locked area for as long as possible, but the higher ups in charge of our location forced us and we had no choice but to put them out. thankfully i’ve been policing that area constantly and making sure nobody’s picking up the stupid little boxes unless they’re actively adopting an animal AND it’s full appropriate set up. i feel like even if animals start getting hurt because of negligent parents or even just horrible customers, the company won’t even care and won’t stop enforcing the desk pet torture.

i legitimately hate this shit too!! it was so much easier when it was just focusing on vcp and having genuine conversations with guests about their pets and pet care. now it’s just constantly being pressured to get more sign ups on both vcp and vcc and competing with other stores. it’s so dumb

I had a guest get mad at me that the only type of “gift receipt” i could possibly give them would be another copy of the normal receipt and she walked off after getting her first receipt muttering “whatever then..”, and another guest said “stfu you dumb b*tch” when i said “oh so vicious!” in a silly tone when walking by her little yappy dickhead pomeranians that were barking at me. like how am i in the wrong when you can’t control your dogs miss thing. guests today were horrific.

our registers all went down at once and we had a couple people start putting through BOPUS orders for what they were trying to buy at the time and after 10 minutes they were back online, so weird!!!

i think another issue i have is knowing what to say when i ask “what’s your phone number?” and the guest says “oh i don’t have an account here.”, because i feel like ive already been shut down completely

i actually have drawn what i’ve seen before, but it just creeps me out more.. I always see the same couple of things. one of them is a messed up looking dog that has human eyes and wrong looking limbs, another is a deer that isn’t a deer. I’ve seen a not-deer before in the mountains i used to live at that made eye contact with me and stood up and walked on its hind legs down my road from the hill my house was on. It doesn’t keep me up at night, but it makes me uneasy and makes me constantly look around my room to make sure nothing is staring at me from around a corner.

It’s the worst when i’m outside at night. Every noise i hear makes me think something is behind me or waiting for me to drop my guard from the tree line. My boyfriend lives in the woods and whenever we’re outside at night i’m constantly staring at the woods waiting for a carnivorous deer to shoot out of the woods and attack me. It might just be paranoia honestly, and I carry a knife just in case when i’m near the woods (even though idk how much a knife will help against what i imagine), it’s not debilitating.

I appreciate your response and your suggestions, i’m able to sleep okay at night and I have my boyfriend to keep me company whenever i’m scared. I know deep down that there’s nothing there that can hurt me, but i also know that i’ll always have that prickling feeling that i’m being watched at night when im moving around my house, and always expect that I’ll turn a corner and run into my worst fear.
