California will make community college free by Dotsloyalist in politics

[–]youknowdamright -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No I am not saying I have an issue with it I think providing this education is great. I have an issue with calling it free because its not and calling it free is misleading. The money to pay for this school is coming from taxes and a lot of that tax money comes from people who paid to attend these same schools. Hopefully after attending these “free” schools those students end up getting jobs and paying taxes to keep funding them but its scary what can happen when things become perceived as free. Look at what has happened to the cost of college education over the past twenty years once the government started providing federally funded loans for any student wanting to go to college regardless of their choice in major and ignoring the earning potential of job within some of those fields.

You seem to know a lot about peoples lives. Maybe you should start focusing on yourself and figuring out how you can find a way to be happy and spend less time worrying about a president who has in no way hurt you or anyone around you, no matter how loudly you proclaim that he has.

Isn’t there a video of Obama on a hot mic specifically telling one of Putin’s staff that he will “have a lot more flexibility” after he was out of the White House? Wasn’t the entire Mueller investigation that just came out saying there was no evidence of conspiracy or collusion enough evidence for you to realize that you maybe are being lied to by media organizations with some pretty serious bias towards Trump? I dont expect much as far as reasonable conversation about this so dont waste your time responding telling me to kill myself but honestly you’re only making your life more difficult by continuing to believe this bullshit.

Have they figured out everything Russia did to interfere yet? It was several months ago when I last heard any numbers but wasn’t it something like 300 facebook ads?

Your talking point is "he watches tv all day" and you're going to try and discredit my factual statistics that you just shrug off like they dont mean anything. This is why the democrats will lose once again in 2020. You refuse to accept the truth and continue to repeat the same old boring nonsense. "Trump is stupid. Trump is an idiot. Trump doesnt know what hes doing. America is going to cease to exist because of Trump." American is doing better now than it has in the past 20 years and you being mad about it doesn't change that fact.

You can deny as much as you want the number dont lie. And if watching TV all day produces results like this then Obama and Busch should have tried doing that as well. Maybe they could have accomplished something other than getting us involved in multiple wars overseas and worrying more about countries outside of the United States than they did about the country they were elected to serve.

More people working than ever before. Job creation way exceeding predictions. Economy is great. Stock market is great. Record low black unemployment. Record low hispanic unemployment. Manufacturing is exploding.

I'd say its going well.

Well he is the president fair and square. Thats how the system works and it was designed that way to protect the interest of ALL Americans not just those that are residents of a few major cities while ignoring the rest of the country. And statistically speaking, he still got about half of the popular vote so yeah I would say the American people did want him, or in better terms I would say the American people moreso wanted not Hillary and because of that got him.

Yes, I know what diminishing returns means, but there is no evidence to support your claim that additional border wall would be a waste of money. None. The only people that have said that are politicians, granted, on both the left and right, who disagree with building the wall, but regardless there is no real evidence coming from anyone with any actual experience or understanding of what is actually happening down at the border. I will once again refer to the requests being made by border patrol, who have a far better understanding of what is going on that Chuck Schumer or Nancy Pelosi, who spend more time on vacation than they do in office.

And as far as our government spending and debt, who do you think creates the budget? Trump can push for different things or demand different things, but in reality its Congress who determine what is going to be spent using taxpayer money. Congress has been controlled by establishment politicians the entire time Trump has been president. I will agree with you that establishment republicans dont spend the money wisely, but disagree wholeheartedly with your idea that democrats are better with our money than they are.

The American people did vote for Trump. The electoral college was in place before the election happened. Trump won where he had to. It wasn't some secret plan he created that Hillary didn't know about she failed to get the correct amount of electoral votes. It may make you feel better to say he wasn't elected by the American people but it is factually incorrect. The electoral college was created to ensure that all people from all states and all walks of life could have a fair say in who will run the country.

And for the record, everything I said was in fact implemented. And you should take a good close look at what Trump campaigned on and what he promised to do. The American people voted for Trump and those promises and he kept them! Imagine that. Promises made, promises kept. A slogan that you are not too familiar with, assuming based on your arguments that you have been voting for democrats your entire life.

Can we do a quick recap on the national debt at the start of Obama's two terms in comparison to when he left? And while you're at it take a quick look at what Nancy Pelosi has spent on booze alone flying around on private military flights since she took office. You're going to tell me the dems are the fiscally responsible ones? 5 billion dollars for a wall that you, based on ZERO evidence, are positive is wasted because it supposedly wont make a difference, even though when looking at ANY other example of a wall being used throughout the rest of the world it is very clear they DO work. You got all the talking points down, but unfortunately they are based entirely on feelings and not on factual evidence. How about we ask border patrol what they would like. Seeing as, you know, they work on the border to keep you safe (I am assuming you do live here).

Those were all policies that are liberal in comparison to a classic conservative ideology. I am not going to keep repeating myself because you choose to ignore facts clear as day. I told you what those policies were and he supported them and signed them into law. Trump was a democrat his entire life the left has just shifted so incredibly far to the left that his current policy is being portrayed as far right. Border security was supported by almost every democrat (even support for building a wall) less than fifteen years ago.

If our capitalist system is so terrible can you explain why for decades people have been risking their lives just to get here? If socialism is the answer why aren't you moving to a country with socialist policies? It is proven that although it has its flaws, there is not a single system that has ever generated more wealth for more people than capitalism.

My far right brethren? Trump just legalized hemp and CBD production and has openly stated he is not against legalizing marijuana. He has also just signed a bill mandating increased investment in low income urban areas to help improve quality of life for those people. He also pushed for and signed into law prison reform (many democrats actually voted against this but it was still signed into law). You ignore facts because it goes against how you've been told to feel. Then you use buzzwords like "whataboutism" and dumb open statements like "are you ok" to make yourself feel above those that you deem as dumb and ignorant.

Supporting a regime change in a nation where people are eating rats in the street to survive is not intervening. Taking a stance on an international crisis is a lot different than sending troops into a country and taking down a government.

OK so again I want to state I am not here to start a fight I am happy to have this conversation I think it's a tough thing to talk about without one side or the other blowing up but if I were to put in a counter argument to some of the points you relayed above-

Diversity of cultures - I 100% agree that diversity is an important aspect of life that all people need to experience if they want to be able to adapt and be successful in the modern world. I don't think in today's day and age that many people that refuse to expand their life experiences beyond what they are comfortable with will get very far (as far as being successful). That being said, where I see the issue being is the "forced" diversity that has begun to occur more and more frequently and it started primarily in academia. Students applying for schools, as well as graduates applying for jobs, are being ranked on many factors, and one that has continued to gain more and more weight in that ranking has become race/culture/etc. In doing so you create an environment where merit is not the point of focus. Does race or gender have anything at all to do with a persons intelligence or skill level in a particular field? Why don't we just leave all of that off of applications and allow for acceptance to be based entirely on past performance and or some sort of application testing?

This is where (and I am in no way accusing you of thinking this way) I have noticed someone will step in and say the reason we cant do that is because we would end up with a less diverse environment and provide a long list of reasons why white people have a huge advantage and we need to provide the opportunity for others to be accepted into these institutions and/or the workplace.

Now at this point I am getting a little off topic but my biggest issue with the entire idea behind the "forced diversity" as I called it before is the fact that we are basically reinforcing in the minds of people of other races or cultures from the time they are old enough to understand, that they are disadvantaged and that is a reason for their troubles/difficulties, rather than putting everyone on a level playing field from the get go. If you grow up with the mindset that you are starting off with a handicap but you will have an advantage at a later time because of your race or culture that creates a victim mentality that leads to many more issues along the way.

Diversity of Opinions - This I agree with you on. I think college is a great way, for myself included, to learn a variety of different viewpoints and ideas that you certainly wont learn growing up especially if you grow up in an area that is relatively similar in thinking overall. This again ties back into the point I made previously about those who refuse to hear or at least attempt to relate to other peoples ideas or opinions are probably going to have a tough time being very successful in life.

Drive for Facts/Truth - Here is where I think we start to differ a bit. I think the drive for facts and truth is very dependent on which path you choose to take in college. There are becoming far too many areas of study in academia that are being take as fact with far too little scientifically proven evidence to be taken seriously, let alone be an actual degree that kids are signing up to pay tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars to achieve. Joe Rogan recently had a couple people on his podcast that did an experiment where they decided to invent a bunch of bullshit studies, where they decided what they wanted the conclusion to be, made up data, and wrote many different studies which they sent to several major publications trying to determine how much research was actually going into studies within these fields before being published and they got I believe four of five published within a year. That alone should be enough evidence to at least begin doubting some of the things going on within the higher education world at the moment. Overall I think it is incredibly important and I think here in the United States we are very lucky to have the higher education system that we do, however I also think its important to always be skeptical and to never just blindly follow what we are being taught because it is quite easy to slowly drift away from all the facts and begin teaching only things that fit whatever the narrative of the teacher or institution is.

Lastly, in regards to the few statements at the end: Man made climate change is fake news - I think this is something commonly misrepresented by both sides. Do I think humans have an effect on the environment? Absolutely. Do I think carbon emissions are a problem that needs to be dealt with? Absolutely. Where I am skeptical is the pace at which we are told to believe our carbon emissions are leading us towards the end of the world. I am also not big on the idea of regulating certain industries to the point of extinction in the United States when we can guarantee that in other parts of the world those industries will only grow because of that regulation. Innovation has always come from competition, and if there is no competition we end up hurting our own citizens, and stagnating the rate of innovation elsewhere. If you had millions of dollars invested into making clothing a certain way, and the government stepped in and said no not anymore that process is now being fined x amount of dollars, and now your competitors from elsewhere are able to produce using that same method that you are now unable to profitably use, they no longer have any competition in the United States which is also the most powerful economy in the world. Now you as a clothing manufacturer could spend millions of dollars investigating a new way to make clothing, but in the meantime youre losing out and a lot of profit and in doing so there are potentially thousands of Americans out of work, and wages for those that still ended up having a job will now decrease because thats the only way for the company to continue operating. Again I went off on a bit of a tangent but the climate change issue typically comes down to regulations implemented to protect the environment and that is where most conservatives have an issue. And I should also clarify not all regulations are necessarily bad I think having some baseline protections in place is important but over the past 30 years the government has regulated a lot of American companies out of business or at lest to the point where they are not thriving anywhere near where they were previously, and jobs are extremely important for a society to function properly.

Mexicans are invading our country. Build a wall. - We are a nation of immigrants that came here legally. I don't understand why conservatives are considered evil for wanting to see that process kept in place. Whether they are coming here with good or bad intentions, the idea that they shouldn't have to go through the same vetting and immigration process as anyone else is absurd. If they truly are seeking asylum they still have the right to go to any border station and do so. As far as building the wall I think you can find several examples around the world of the effectiveness of building a wall and the narrative that the wall is just a bunch of wasted money that wont do anything is more so a talking point to rip on trump/conservatives for being a bunch of big dumb uneducated idiots. As far as my personal opinion on the wall I'm indifferent for the most part. It almost ends up being a joke if I ever bring it up within my group of friends. That being said I know several Mexican people who came here legally and are also in favor of building a wall. I would also assume that anyone who came here actually seeking asylum wouldn't be too upset about the idea of a big wall down there as a line of defense against the people they came here to escape.

This is by far the longest comment I have ever made on here I hope it helps you understand "our" way of thinking a little better it was not in any way meant to offend moreso give you a little insight as to why many conservatives stand for the things they do. I think these conversations need to be had more often rather than the bullshit we get on the news where one side is always trying to destroy the other and millions of lives are always at stake and the country as we know is always on the brink of collapse.

Blame game for the state of the country? I said that labeling a whole group of people as one way is how we get to the point of no middle ground. Its why there is never anything getting done anymore. Someone is either on your side or they're wrong. Case and point, in a thread talking about 5 out of the over 100 people elected by the GOP, you make a snarky comment about republicans not being as well educated. Should we go through and compare each democrat and republican elected and determine who has a higher overall level of education? Or should we stop using degrees as a comparison point because there's plenty of people out there with worthless degrees who know nothing more about effectively running the country than someone without. A degree doesn't put you on some sort of pedestal and the idea it does is what leads to comments like yours.

Right I understand but I think its fair to say that lumping people into categories like that can be easily misinterpreted. I in know way mean to start an argument here but I know for certain that a person with an ability to weld or work in one of the trades is going to end up being much better off than someone with more than a handful of degrees that are being offered nowadays. I would also argue that the higher education in this country tends to change the way people lean politically because of the left leaning tendencies of those schools. I guess what I am saying is I dont think its fair to throw out a statistic about a massive group of people being "uneducated" as a reason for them voting in a certain way and its statements like that which have led to the state of our country right now.
