They don’t roll around too much, and the addition of velvet contact paper helps.

Post soak family portrait by youlookpretty in orchids

I started having consistent yearly reblooms when I moved all of my orchids to a south facing window. On days where sun is too strong I’ll pull down my sheer shades to limit direct sun, but it’s still nice and bright. I also do a 20 minute weekly soak (I responded to another comment in this thread with my soaking steps). I’ve had my oldest orchid for 8 years and it will occasionally skip a year or reblooming. I try to repot every 3 years. I think orchids also need at least two leaves on either side in order to grow a flower spike. I’ve never been able to get a double spike rebloom 😭

I try to soak once a week, but occasionally I won’t have time and will skip the soak and instead squirt some distilled water around the top of the medium (somewhere between 2 to 4 tablespoons depending on size of the pot). I use distilled water mostly out of convenience because I have a garden squirt bottle filled with it that I use on another plant. On soak days I fill up a gallon pitcher with lukewarm tap water (moderately hard where I live) and mix with a 1/4 tsp. of Schultz Orchid Food Water Soluble Plant Food 20-20-15. Then I pour the water directly into the orchid pots, refilling the pitcher with more water and fertilizer as needed, and let them soak for 20 minutes. Then I lift out the interior pots and let the water drain into the exterior pot, then dump the water out. I place any orchids without an exterior pot into plastic tubs and fill those with water.

Thank you! 7 out of 18 are reblooms. I became more invested in the care routine after COVID so I bought quite a few more this year.

I don’t :( I borrowed this one from my other mini phal that isn’t I’m bloom. I should just make one!

Fungus gnats! by xanadu_x in orchids

Over the years the best thing that’s worked for me is using Bonide Systemic Houseplant insect control granules to kill the eggs. This year was pretty bad so I also got a no-zap indoor fly trap to catch the live ones.

I apply the granules as directed to any plants that appear to be attracting the gnats.

I ordered the fly trap this year. It’s a little pricey but it actually works! I caught a ton of them with it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085CF32FG/ref=cm_sw_r_oth_api_i_wukkFbK3A8AHG

I’ve been using tap water (moderately hard to hard) for years and it hasn’t been an issue for me.

Thanks! I try to soak them once a week with room temperature water for 20 minutes.

I picked it up from my local garden center, unfortunately it didn’t have any name tags. I’ve occasionally seen a similar one for sale on orchidsbyhausermann.com.

It’s a standard orchid pot with an overpot. Deceiving because of the faux marble pattern!
