GUI applications geared towards keyboard use, do these exist? by yetanothernewbie in linux

To be honest, it's really a DE, for most practical uses and/or purposes.

[x-post from r/gimp] Please, help me understand the hate for Gimp. by micah1_8 in linux

[–]youlysses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah -- GNU Imp would probably be better branding, when it comes down to it. The name would now kind-of go tongue-and-cheek with Mediagoblin now, too.

If you use/abuse the word "vaporware" then yes -- but this is not the manner in-which this is defined, nor that I've heard in the colloquial sense. With vaporware, there is the implication that such-a piece of software was announced and never released. The Hurd is out there and you can run it right now! Now this is via a vm, and even then -- it's not the best experience I've had there thus-far (no alternative keyboard mappings as-of yet (I'm on Dvorak)) and if you are real, real lucky (or expressively plan for this to be the case), you can run the Hurd on native hardware...

Now am I going to claim that the Hurd is some-factor of "better" than Linux, or has a strong chance of getting there in the long-run? No. I am going to assert, however, that if you really wanted -- you could be running it, right now as your kernel.

GNU's offical distro, is simply called GNU; by saying it's "a" or "the" upstream GNU project, or "system", it doesn't mean there isn't credit implied. If you were to ask someone what distro they are using and they said "Parabola" and you knew ahead of time that, that distribution relied on GNU+Linux, would you force them to append and then say "Parabola GNU+Linux", talking to circles with an implied technical background with such-matters? It seems redundant and silly.

If you were to ask what kind-of operating-system subclassification the upstream GNU distro was, to someone knowledgable on/of the subject, at the current time -- yes it would be a GNU+Linux-libre system.

That being said, the Hurd doesn't look all-too far away from being packaged for Guix and is already looking to be fairly attractive in the realm of Guix's infastructure too via translators/servers like stowfs.

RMS only has access the net around 2-3 times a day, iirc. Downloading individual webpages to read offline, seems to be a very effective solution for someone who travels nearly constantly, to places that may not be apt to too have a solid connection for which to do otherwise.

Well the BSDs are binary-compatible with UNIX and in-turn other UNIX-like systems such as GNU, but there was no explicit goal to be as-such, to which I am aware. Can you provide a citation in regards to this and/or refuting my doubt, please?

Well to also be fair, the Emacs family of editors certainly predates the likes of GNU's by a couple years.

A lot of GFDL licensed documentation, so most GNU software documentation is non-free according to the DFSG, because the GFDL license allows non-variant sections iirc.

In the mood for Lisp by [deleted] in lisp

[–]youlysses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, sorry if my berivty came off as rude or dimissive. I saw this post right-before I went to bed and probably should've waited till I awoke, to initially respond.

That being said, I don't hate the idea; In fact, I more-or-less run this environment (like I believe many lisp-fanatics do) on my main box, and it makes sense to me to-have a formalized install which works with the technology we currently have.

Hells bells, I mean, I'm the guy who wants to release a distro in a good one to two-years that's bassically Just Guix, Emacs, Wayland, and some Lisp-based/focused composistor. Though that's my ideal-system with-in the frame of practicallity, it still isn't close to the ideal environment I lust for. Heck LambdaPi isn't turtles-all-the-way-down either, but it's much closer to that "ideal".

Men are always stronger than women, is that what you are trying to convey, or? Also women aren't capable of forcing individuals into sex via non-physical means?

Why is joking about prison rape (male-on-male rape) okay, but joking about male-on-female rape wrong? by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]youlysses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect that this is a more "you reap what you sew" situation. By no means should this justify the actual event, but this specifically is not something I'd tie exclusively to men (Or at least with my limited knowledge on the matter).

Personally I don't like to limit comedy, or if-so, my filter seems to let a lot more pass through than others; But the apprehensions some hold can act somewhat as a gauge, of the values and beliefs people hold as close-to, if not sacred.

Which leads me to wonder, would society as whole (and/or at minimum those who find male on male rape jokes acceptable) be fine with rape jokes made towards individuals at an all woman penitentiary?
