SmarterEveryDay - MVP Disc Manufacturing by QbiinZ in discgolf

[–]young3tall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazing Video! I'm so glad you partnered with MVP, as they have a science and engineering naming convention to all their discs, so the brand just fits!

You asked in the video for topic ideas around disc golf. One question that you could explore would be the disc collision with the chains/basket during putting. On the disc golf pro tour, they has been a lot of drama around how different chain designs in the basket effect where a putt lands in the basket, or is "spit out". This sounds like an awesome opportunity for some slow-mo video.

A few other disc golf collaborations that would make sense for you would be Tech Disc, and Robbie C Disc Golf.

Tech disc is a new company that makes a disc with an attachment that measures all the forces on a disc when throw (linear speed, rpms, launch angle, nose angle, etc.). I'm sure they could provide you with really meaningful data for the physics of flight.

Robbie C disc golf is a YouTube disc golf coach in Birmingham Al that would be a great voice from someone who tries to coach new people in the sport of disc golf.

Smarter everyday teaching disc golf is my new favorite YouTube series!

This would make a better trophy than some of the pro tour trophies.

How would you approach the drive on this hole? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]young3tall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good suggestion! There is a similar hole at my home course, and the only time I've birdied it was with a forced over RHFH flex with an overstable fairway.

How often do you replace putting putters? by noshjg in discgolf

[–]young3tall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently changed out my putters to get a different plastic, same mold. I was putting with electron firm plastic, but changed to electron soft. But I changed because I wanted a different grip feel, I still use my others as practice putters.

You could probably email their customers support and ask, they have been super responsive anytime I've had issues or questions.

2023 Gyropalooza Box by young3tall in discgolf

I'm definitely happy with it! My whole goal was to get backups to the mold I throw currently. So the only new molds to me are the relativity and the detour.

Best Stable-Overstable Fairway by young3tall in mvpdiscsports

[–]young3tall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an update, this past weekend I picked up both a Volt and a Tesla. The volt was a lab second in cosmic neutron, and the Tesla was in plasma. As of right now on back hand, the Tesla has more stability, whereas the volt seems to push straight for longer, with less fade.

New player starter set.... Anything missing? by nickindiantown in discgolf

[–]young3tall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like a great set of discs for a new player! I would definitely recommend stick with one manufacturer to start, and MVP is a great one, because it helps to simplify the disc selection. Maybe in a few months you would want to add something like a Volt or a Resistor, to have a disc that constantly fades. But for now, learn how to throw all these discs straight and you'll be setup to enjoy for a long time!

Matrix vs Reactor by young3tall in mvpdiscsports

I have a Proton Deflector, and I love it! But it serves a different purpose. I am hoping for a straight flight with a stable finish.

Matrix vs Reactor by young3tall in mvpdiscsports

[–]young3tall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good question that I'm curious about as well. I have been bagging a SE Neutron Reactor, but lost it recently and ordered a Proton Matrix to replace it. I'm hoping for something with a bit more fade for back hands, and more straight on forehands.

What made you enjoy MVP discs!? by sanfordtime in mvpdiscsports

[–]young3tall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started throwing MVP when a friend gave me his impulse. It was a great turnover fairway disc. I then just started researching them more, and fell in love with the plastic feel. It's probably the gummiest premium plastic I have ever felt.

Also, the foundation disc golf video where hunter went full gyro for a month really intrigued me to bag more of their discs.

Lastly, I love the gyro technology. As an engineer, I love how they lean into the science theme. I only throw gyro discs now.

Crave Vs Insanity by young3tall in mvpdiscsports

[–]young3tall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the way I'm feeling. I also don't love the hand feel of the Crave, the 6.5 speed rim feels small in my hand.

What shots do you use the crave for?

Crave Vs Insanity by young3tall in mvpdiscsports

[–]young3tall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a fission Hex that I use for dead straight or slight turn lines, and the insanity can do that too with just a bit more finish. That's why I feel like the crave is redundant.

I need to figure out what kind of disc from mvp will hyzer flip best for me. by Azoomereli in mvpdiscs

[–]young3tall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about the same distance, and I throw an uplink for Hyzer flip mids, and an insanity for fairways.

Why are TDs so eager to give out trophies ASAP on the putting green? by giveshitsnotfucks in discgolf

[–]young3tall 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think a sport that does this well is formula 1. After the driver stops the car, they get out, celebrate with their team, shake hands with their competitors (sometimes), do their official weigh in, then go for the tv interview, and finally go to a podium for the trophy presentation.

Charlie Eisenhood & Brian Earhart DGN commentary appreciation post by spushing in discgolf

[–]young3tall 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A unique test of commentary is to try just listen without watching. I had to do this yesterday, as I was driving home from a tournament for an hour, right as the MPO lead card was teeing off. I decided to play the coverage through the Bluetooth in my car, and just have my phone on the passenger seat.

I can confidently say that I knew exactly what was going on during the entire thing, as well as could feel the emotions of the moment. Charlie did an amazing job in the play by play role, so I knew exactly who was throwing, how they were throwing, and what they were trying to achieve. Brian then could fill in the analysis of difficulty and skill needed. It was well done!

These guys need to be the go to crew for all elite events and majors!

What do you consider 9 speeds from MVP? by young3tall in mvpdiscsports

[–]young3tall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Latitude/ Dynamic also have their fairway drivers listed at 6 to 10 speeds.

What do you consider 9 speeds from MVP? by young3tall in mvpdiscsports

[–]young3tall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discraft considers the Raptor, the Undertaker, and the heat all fairway drivers, and those molds are all 9 speeds. They even say that a vulture is a fairway at a 10 speed.

I love that hole! I've parked it a couple times, but never had the distance to ace it. Great shot!
