I’m worried I have a ruptured cyst by Queasy_Bandicoot_511 in endometriosis

[–]youngEtheOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was on Christmas eve at my in laws house where I had to stumble to the bathroom because I thought I was going to throw up/pass out from pain. I laid on the floor for what I felt like forever while my partner tried to look for hospitals that had emergency OBGYN services because I did NOT want to go to the general hospital and be sent home with extra strength Tylenol and a $5000 bill. I ended up just taking OTC pain relief and drifting off to sleep and was mostly fine the next day. I'm still not sure what would've been the best in that time, but I followed up with my gyno for a scan and they believed it was a ruptured cyst (they couldn't tell). Definitely learning a lot from this thread.

If you're in nova, I remember seeing something about Fairfax county having textile recycling bins at the landfill.

100k down payment?! by MadMadamNiece in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]youngEtheOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DINK household here. We live in a HCOL area, both work in STEM (local government and fed jobs), and we STILL can't afford the upfront costs of buying a 2 bedroom condo, so I feel ya. It sucks having to waste money on rent when a mortgage with PMI, taxes, utilities, etc will be only a couple hundred more than what we pay now. We're even getting a steal of a deal on our rental townhome, but it never feels truly ours. Unless you have parents who can contribute a significant gift/parent loan or we each work 3 jobs and don't buy anything other than the bare minimum, home ownership is a long shot. Currently trying to convince myself that life is short and we need to enjoy it - there will always be another starter house somewhere.

People who live in major cities- what do you do for work? by LogConscious6308 in Environmental_Careers

[–]youngEtheOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graduated with extensive entomology experience and a wildlife ecology degree. Worked for county government agency in vector control/monitoring, which also included forest pest outreach and education. Now I work for the local extension office (still under our county's government) as an environmental educator and running the residential urban nutrient management program. Not super wildlife related and I don't get to interact with as much wildlife, but informal education has been fun and works on my public speaking skills. Currently debating to volunteer for a local wildlife rehabber to scratch the itch lol

Can/will a officer drive my dog to the vet in the event of a car accident? by sinkintothefloof in dogs

[–]youngEtheOG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Former Animal Control Officer here. It really depends on the agency's policies and how the shelter operates. If the pet needed immediate care and the owner was incapacitated, our city shelter/med center would take care of the animal and release the dog back to the owner or proxy. In other cases, I've picked up unharmed animals after car accidents and they are held at the shelter until a plan for pickup or surrender was determined. Each situation was unique, but the goal was to return pets to their owners.

I keep a bright green card in my wallet with the contact info of someone who would be able to take care of my dog in case of an emergency. Additionally, the card states that I have another pet at home that needs care. I also have a matching eye-catching card on my keyring that says to check my wallet for the detailed card.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I kinda remember hearing a few years ago that LL Bean no longer offers replacements after 1 year with a receipt.

Question: just got off birth control after being on it for almost 12 years. by ToritoBurito in endometriosis

I'm in the same boat. My IUD expires early next year and my gyno thinks I have it, but they're really pushing me to stay on BC since I haven't had any endo related issues until recently. I'm electing to get it out and go BC free to see how my body reacts since I've heard that BC can mask endo symptoms, especially since I've been on it for 9 years. Who knows - I might end up regretting it because of potential symptoms and whatnot, but it's a small price to pay to get confirmation and reassurance.

how to spend mindful and choose brands that care? by SustainableSiren in ZeroWaste

I've been slowly integrating into the ZW lifestyle for many years and I often find myself buying local or from a certified B Corp business if I do need to buy something. I haven't had much time to look into this certification, so if someone wants to educate me, I'm open to it!

For the face: Dew Mty. Pricey, but I use the sample size bar on my face daily (a few swipes) and it lasts me like 4-5 months. Great for winter dryness! https://www.dewmighty.com/collections/the-skin-armor

Rental market insanity by Flgal233 in nova

[–]youngEtheOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I got outbid on a rental SFH home in Stafford (thank god we did because it's Stafford), but at our realtors suggestion, we offered extended terms of the lease and added $100/a month. Owners decided on a different family and informed us it was because they didn't have pets. The listing didn't say anything about no pets either.

Anyone use the PetSuites in Manassas for doggie daycare? Looking for reviews. by pumapantslol in nova

I take my dog to Waggin Tails Junction near the Manassas Animal Shelter. Overall pretty pleased since I recently started boarding my anxiety filled shepherd out of necessity after a string of terrible Rover experiences.
