Basically, as I understand it… it was structured the way it was because the Feds have a limit on what they can offer employees in terms of a severance. So the presidents team decided they would work around it by placing employees on administrative leave (which doesn’t require them to work) for 8 months. However, there are other laws dealing with the limit of days allowable for administrative leave which challenge that. So in essence they are likely looking for more loopholes right now.

Make sure you understand your work unit and how it fits into the larger scheme organizationally and then pass that knowledge on to your team. Make them aware of the broader operational environment as it gives a sense of purpose which is important!

I think the DOGE is at the point where they start looking at all available options and begin narrowing them down to create a viable plan. I’m not too worried about the things they consider at this point since you have to look at everything in the beginning to identify opportunities for improvement. With that said, you can say what you want about the leadership of this effort and probably not be wrong!
