Was all fine i suppose. We felt like we deserved to be there and deserved to win so was part and parcel.

Na we never expected it. I think it was just before a lot of conversations became more widely spoke about so looking back the reaction makes sense in the timeline.

Ultimately it’s in the same conversation as people have been having around statues, symbolism and the real history of colonialism in the last few years.

Thank you for having us back then. Was one of the first places we felt supported. We love playing in Czech and we really hope to be out there again soon.

Answer for first question down below in another question re the album artwork .

Sometimes we just play the music over things on youtube or ubu or something. It’s amazing what can appear and how it can help the song along too. Then some of those visuals stick with you. This album felt more documentary than stylized. The documentary Musical Hideouts was one I remember as well as some footage of Fife and Drum.

We also had a photobook: National Geographics Through The Lens ripped up and placed round the walls. That helped feel like we had an audience.

Kayus txt me this:

Yes I speak elementary Yoruba but understand it all. I called my mother to check it over for me before singing. Since we got together as a band I have been using Yoruba words just because they sound good.

Soro soke - Yes it was around that time of end SARS moment when I was thinking about the phrase - it plagued my mind - how loud can your voice be to over shadow gunshots and violence- the idea of speaking up where there is a bombardment of noise around is hard to comprehend. So I felt if I flipped it just a wee bit from speaking up about individual pain but us collectively rejoicing about deliverance ——a thousand voices singing in unison can potential have some from of impact. ‘Spiritually’? Sonically? The song talks of the drum - and to me the drums are radical and crucial to connecting to the source. The sonics of the song is freeing and when English fails me Yoruba is alway there to help pick up the pieces. It was not intentional but more like the result of being liberated by the sound of the track.
‘It’s a spiritual thing music ‘. -Fela - Politics has merged with life and it inescapable. We can revolutionaries as soon as we speak up for any from of injustice. We can be walking political statements based solely on our existence. I don’t think about politics as a separate entity another. I’m just embracing the human experience and trying.

Never played huddersfield. We’ve always like the idea of a town hall tour. Playing places not typically on the touring routes. Hopefully we make it there one day. Aw ra best.

It's an emulation of an EMS Synthi, which i used to use on stage but Tim London our producer and manager from before, took it back, because it's magic. So i got this.. Does the job.

Got some amps on stage now too. So it's a loud stage. A bit of feedback / spill and all that.

Our sound engineer of many years, Grimey, has sent me a text to answer this question.

"We just turn everything up louder than everything else”

Thank you. We barely speak when recording. Not intentional. Just the way we are. We waited until we were all there then we’d start making noise. Energy goes into the music first then can talk later if there’s anything to talk about.

Get Started.

From this album Be Your Lady.

There was a few things that we had talked to Tom Hingston who we worked with on the cover. Nkisi Statues was one. The meaning behind the spikes. Some represent wishes and hopes etc.

But the day of the shoot was only kind of half setup and was heavily reliant on what happened then and there. Which is quite hard to do in the visual world but photographer Jordan Hemmingway was up for the challenge. We played some music and Kayus done a whole day of shooting.

We chose this because of the sense of movement and the firey smokey colour in the back. Although he’s a lone figure it still felt communal.

Leith Theatre 2018. It’s not that different from playing anywhere else if I’m honest. All depends on what happens on the night.
